A fantastic OLED display, powerful SOC, and comfortable controls make this a great clamshell!
This product was designed and made by Retroid Pocket, who have made several excellent handheld consoles over the years. The sticks are smooth and accurate, and the buttons and D-Pad comfortable and precise. The size makes it pocketable for some, possibly too bulky for others. I can carry it in my work pants or jeans with no trouble, but it is a bit heavy so you know you have it in your pocket! The battery life is variable, but very good for this size of console. If you're playing older retro games from the 8 and 16 bit eras, you'll probably get many hours of gameplay. Playing something newer, like something from your Gamecube or PS2 collections will use the battery more quickly, and this is also affected by screen brightness and audio volume. In short, I think it has excellent battery life, but that life is variable baed on what you're doing with the console. The batter is 5000mah, and for the size I feel this is a very good capacity. The build quality feels excellent, and the hinge looks and feels solid. I got the semi-transparent teal model and it looks fantastic. The controls are fairly quiet for a Retroid Pocket device, but not silent -- my spouse isn't bothered by it but everyone is different. The screen is remarkable, and everyone who I've shown this to has made a positive comment. OLED is amazing, and this is a roomy screen with vivid color. It also gets dim enough for night time play in bed. Again, this is perception and will vary from person to person. Software is Android, so if you've used an Android phone you will have some point of reference. If you're like me and don't use Android phones, there is a learning curve, but there are countless guides, both video and written, for setting up an Android gaming device. While the setup is made easier with experience, this is a solid implementation of Android and I found setup to be easy. One key point: this does not come wit any paid games. If you want to play your favorite retro games, you'll have to supply them. I would not hand this to my mother (also a gamer) without setting it up first, but if this is a gift I feel the person for whom it's for should have some idea or some resources at hand. Web searches will help. There are many free or inexpensive Android games, and this system has good driver support, so playing lots of games is not a difficult proposition. If you have a "Play" account through Android, you can sign in and have access to all your previous purchases and add to your collection as well. Is it fun? The answer for me is, yes, it's quite fun. If you like gaming and enjoy physical controls, it's hard to imagine not having fun with this device. I find it to be a comfortable device with a stunning screen and excellent controls. Can I nit pick? Sure, but my nit picks are technical and would take too long to explain and probably not even be on the radar of the average consumer. I love using this device! Finally, is this a good value for money? This depends. If you want to play old 8-bit games that used a joystick and one button this seems like overkill. If you're all about experience, and you are willing to pay for nice things, this might still be fantastic with those old games. Certainly I play some games I still have from the "2600" days and I enjoy them immensely. This will play PS2 and GC games that you have in your personal library, but you'll have to figure out how to do that yourself. This is also a great streaming device, and movies look fantastic on this screen. It's also a great game streaming device, and I enjoyed playing PC games via Steam Link on this handheld -- it was a great experience. In addition to the onboard storage, there is a mSD slot, and I have a 1TB card in mine. Format it exFAT and you can configure the card on your computer then put it in the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 and off you go. This is my favorite gaming device. The combination of portability, quality of controls, gorgeous screen, and quality feel make it a winner for me. As a child I dreamt of a day where things like this might exist -- and now I have it in my hands -- this brings immense joy. 5/5 stars

This is soooo good.
I bought this thing figuring that I would have fun playing with it on airplanes. I play with this thing almost every day. One of the best games is just tinkering with the different settings (like the joystick lights) and loading up all the games. I have definitely gotten my money's worth out of this thing already. Battery life is good. The form factor is great because it easily fits in your pocket, and the screen is protected. The quality of the buttons is great.

nice handheld
This has been a nice little handheld that also runs full Android, which has been nice in a pinch if I don’t feel like pulling out my phone. Plays retro games well if a little fiddly (like any emulator situation), and it plays games from the Play store (SDV on yet another device).

Excellent
Great device, very portable and powerful for its size. For a $200 handheld, definitely worth it.

Amazing device with questionable build quality
I absolutely love this device. It helped reignite the love and fun that I’ve been missing in my gaming hobby lately, I was taking it everywhere and playing constantly, it was a blast to set up (took a while and is more complicated than other devices I’ve used, but it also can do more), and with the 3d printed grip I bought it was super comfortable. I ultimately sent it back though, as I ordered it as the issues with the hinge durability were showing up, and after about 26 or 27 days my hinge developed a crack as well. I could have taken advantage of their generous exchange policy, but I figured it would just keep happening until I was out of warranty and out of luck. This truly is an amazing device, great portability, solid battery life, beautiful screen, the buttons feel nice but are a little loud. I was able to emulate up to WiiU and ps2 really easily, and it plays native android games really well too. At this point, I love the value, but the AYN Thor base model is only slightly more expensive for a dual screen device with very similar specs for around $30-50 more depending on sales, and AYN typically has better build quality than Retroid (owned by the same parent company). The hinge issues are very unfortunate, and hopefully newer batches can fix it, and if you can snag a Flip 2 on sale around $190-200 I would absolutely jump on it. Just don’t skimp on the memory card, if you’re new to emulation, your roms will take up more space than you think for the newer systems, and you’ll run out of space quick. Would absolutely recommend a 1tb micro sd for the Flip 2 at minimum, since the internal storage is only 128gb and that fills up insanely fast. Overall, if you don’t care about 2 screens and want a clamshell retro console, this absolutely should be something you consider. Once they get build quality fixed, this will be a no brainer.
