世界的に有名であった故スティーブン・ホーキング博士とお嬢さんのルーシーは、これまでに子供向けの、科学を取り入れた物語であるジョージシリーズを共同で出版されてきた。このシリーズではストーリーの間にところどころ、科学的知識・事実を教えてくれるコーナーがあった。本書はそれらのコーナーをまとめ、新たに加えた内容も併せて、宇宙の事を中心に、様々な科学を学べる一冊になっている。他の著名な科学者たちも執筆に参加しており、宇宙、地球外生命のことからタイムトラベル、地球のことや未来のことに至るまで、内容は盛り沢山である。 ４００ページを超える分厚いペーパーバックだが、児童書なのでイラストも多く、文字も大きい。フォントも読みやすく美しいものを使用している。内容が細かく区切ってあるので、総計ページ数が多い中でも少しずつ読み進めやすい。児童書ではあるが、内容は高校レベルのところも無いではないし、サイエンス・リテラシーの低下が叫ばれる昨今、大人にもお薦めの、一家に一冊置いて常に参照したい本である。 本文はモノクロだが、カラー写真のページが中央にある。

A wonderful book, perfectly written, making even complex concepts easy to understand.

My 9 y.o. loves this book. We've previously discussed a lot of the concepts, but this seems to answer questions I hadn't thought of, but my son wanted to know. Easy to understand and great for adults as well - if you just want a simple explanation. If you're after a more in-depth understanding (not the aim of this book, but if it sparks an interest in you and you want to follow up ), then I suggest Simon Singh's The Big Bang.

The delivery was quick. Got it the next day. The book is really good except for the fact that most of the pages are black and white. There are few color (polished) pages but for that price, it is not up to the mark. That's why I am only giving 4 stars. However, the content is good and suitable for young explorers.
