Perfect match for the broken timing dial on my dryer
It was Sunday when I took a large load out of the washing machine and put it in my Hotpoint Dryer. I turned the timing dial around to bring it back to the right position for the load and heard and felt a little tiny snap sound from inside. And then the timing dial just spun around, without making the normal clicking sound as it goes past the seldom used positions all the way to position I normally use for most of my laundry. I still closed the door and pushed the "start button" but nothing happened. I turned the dial again a couple times, but it had stopped engagin with the timer and would not start because the timer was still actually set on "off" position. You know those times in your life when everything has been going wrong for so long that JUST ONE MORE little thing is the straw that breaks the camel's back? Well I was about there at that point with a full load of wet clothes in the dryer and a broken part on a very old (over twenty years) dryer. I first went to research how to pull the knob/dial off without doing more damage, and found that was very simple, just grab it and pull it straight out...or use pliers if you can't get a strong enough grip. I did that and then saw that the part that engaged with the shaft of the actual timer had two very tiny cracks in it and that loosened it just enough so that it was spinning free of the timer. Next problem find a replacement FAST. I use the dryer a lot and especially at the moment when I am trying to get "spring cleaning" done and also sorting out things that I want to take for donations, that need to be washed and dried before they are acceptable. You know those days where one more little thing that goes wrong can seem to ruin your life? You know what cures that? The one little thing that goes right, at just the right time, in just the right place. I found that one little thing that went completely right on Sunday afternoon. It was the BlueStars Dryer Timer Control knob ....with upgraded metal ring, no less (lack of which is probably why those two little cracks made my timer control no longer workable). My Hotpoint dryer model number was listed as being "compatible". I ordered it Sunday, it was delivered Tuesday morning, just as promised, and it was on my dryer as soon as I could get the package open. Just slid on without any problem, and the pointer even lined up perfectly with the original knob. I had seen some reviews with different model numbers say and show that it fit and worked but the pointer was not in the right position, so they marked a new pointer on the replacement dial. But on my dryer it was a PERFECT MATCH. I would have been ecstatic even if it pointed the wrong way at that point. Yes, I definitely recommend.

Here’s another fix for the faulty design of this knob
If this knob works for you it will only be a temporary fix. I hammered a finishing nail into the gap between the flat plastic side of the shaft and the metal band. I now have three knobs that are able to spin the dial!

Didn't work out of the box
This item was supposed to fit the model number of my hotpoint front load dryer .well, it didn't fit. Let me clarify, the knob to stem did fit. However, when I rotate the to a setting, the knob not the stem, would rotate and slip backwards. I was never able to set the proper setting. To solve the problem, I had to use a epoxy adhesive; it now works perfect 👌.

Easy to change the knob
The timer knobs kept breaking on my older dryer. Not knowing what it was and thinking it was the mechanism I called for repair. It was an expensive service call, and the technician suggested I order this one . It has a little metal band around the place where the knob fits on the post, so it should last and not crack like the last two in a couple years. It was super easy to just slide on .

Clever hack to replace an obsolete/unavailable Kenmore/Westinghouse Dryer Timer Control Knob
The timer control knob on my ancient (circa 1981) electric Kenmore Dryer finally fatigued after 45 years! And...the correct replacement part (Kenmore 688865 or Westinghouse IM654) is no longer available (trust me...not on Amazon, eBay, or thru a half-dozen parts suppliers). I love this dryer because it is simple: a hefty motor, a belt, a rotating drum, a heating element, two switches and the control knob. No circuit boards, just a temperature/humidity sensor. And I was not ready to replace the dryer with a piece of imported junk that has no chance of a 20-year lifespan, much less 45 years. So, here's a hack using the WE1M652 timer control knob which fits the Kenmore D-shaft perfectly, though the arrow doesn't line up correctly. See picture below - a little white-out to disguise the original arrow, and a new arrow, courtesy of a black Sharpie. Works perfectly, and I'm guessing it will outlive me. Hopefully this review will help someone else resuscitate an old, but reliable piece of machinery. And save well over $500! Oh, and BlueStars shipped rapidly...thanks!

Good remplacement for my broken knob, for my dryer type the arrow showed the opposite of what it was supposed to be. Used acetone to remove it and made a new one myself. Despite that it feels sturdier then the original one was before it broke.
