Excellent light-weight, traditional shikibuton
I'm used to sleeping on the floor or a semi-hard surface because a traditional soft mattress (or even a thick futon) causes back problems for me. The shikibuton is light weight and comfortable, has just enough cushioning when used on top of a tatami mat and but is firm enough to give me a good sleeping posture. Like a traditional shikibuton, you spread it out at night when ready to sleep and fold it up and put it away during the day, so it's also great for a small living space. Make sure you buy a futon cover for it (I bought a FULI twin-size XL one for mine).

OMG
This futon has changed my life. I will admit I only allowed mines to air out for a day and a half before losing my mind and giving in to my selfish desires to lay on it. I did flap it like a towel over that day and a half hoping it would speed up the inflation process. It appeared to work somewhat. Now lets get to why I love this futon. I suffer from lower back pain and have heard over the years that futons are good for such things. I am thoroughly impressed by the comfort. It feels like im laying down on a firm bed and I can hardly feel the hard floor beneath me. However, if you do feel like feeling the floor beneath you in anyway could irritate you. I would go with the extra padding option amazon has available above. I would wager that extra padding could make a noticeble difference for even more comfort.Another reason why I bought this is because it will make moving out much easier as a college student. This futon is compact and when folded could fit in your trunk with relative ease. I cant imagine myself going back to using a regular full size bed now. Thank You Luxton I am a happy believer now.

Very comfortable
I am transitioning to sleeping on the floor so cannot compare this futon to any other. So far I have found it very comfortable. It is not very thick but that makes it easier to fold and move around. I am also hoping that since it is not filled with cotton it will not get lumpy. I do have two suggestions. One is to offer it in regular twin size, I don't like the long because it goes past the end of my tatami mat. I also wish it had a cover. Using a sheet does not protect the underside and no matter how clean I try to keep things, I know it is going to get dirty. There are no cleaning instructions that I can find. Since it is white it will very quickly show the dirt. Otherwise definitely recommended.

Heaven!
Perfect! For a year or two before my wife and I got married, I got tired of being uncomfortable in bed and started sleeping on the floor on and off, usually with just a sleeping bag or a few quilts as padding. I went back and forth for about a year but the stretches of floor-sleeping got longer and longer. By the time I was engaged, I was sleeping on the floor exclusively. When we got married and started shopping for a bed together, the sales lady at the furniture store kept trying to sell us rediculously thick foam mattresses costing over $1000. I kept asking for something hard and firm. Frustrated, she finally pointed at a nice box-spring and said "There, is that hard enough for you?!" I laid on it, felt my back stretch out and a few vertebrae popping back into place and I said, "Yes! It's perfect!" She threw her hands up in the air and walked away while my wife looked around embarrassed. We settled on getting some risers to fit a California King sized bed and bought a nice soft Twin XL for my wife. She got the mattress, I got the box spring and put a thick sheet of particle board on top to even the two sides out. I took several old blankets and quilts and put them under the sheet for padding and it's been AMAZING!It's too hard for my wife, so it totally protects my territory in bed (wives can be so greedy with bed-space, yknow?) and I can still roll over to her side for cuddling and back to mine when it's time to sleep. The blanket-pad has been great but needs regular adjusting and shifting back in place, and it doesn't quite cover the whole board. So, finally, after 6 and a half years, I started looking around for a real pad to put on my bed. No foam, blech, I'll be eating Advil for a week if I sleep on foam. Something thick and dense like the consistency of 4 blankets folded up on each other.I found this futon pad and took a chance on it. I almost just bought some quilt batting to sew together in several layers, but it was going to cost me just as much and be more work. It came in the mail today and it's PERFECT! A little big and hangs over the edges a bit, but I'm sure that'll not be any problem, protects the kids from the edges of the board, I mean bed, anyway :-)I think I'm in love already, laying in it as I write this. Now I just have to convince my wife this is the way to go still. She's unconvinced, but only has complaints about her bed and how uncomfortable her soft mattress is. Someday, I'm sure she'll come around.... ;-)

I Traded A Queen Sized Bed For This
There was always something that I liked about sleeping closer to the floor. With the fact that I had to move at the end of last year, I decided that I would get a futon to replace my bed so I didn't have to move a queen sized bed. I was glad that I did as this saves space and it still very comfortable for me to lay on. If you want to sleep closer to the floor on a stiffer surface, I'd recommend this. I find that it helps my back feel much more relieved in the morning as sleeping on a mattress on a box spring on a bed frame would often leave me feeling really sore in the morning. If you need a softer sleep surface, this is definitely not going to fill that role.
