Should've been better.
If like me you like monster games then there aren't that many to choose from.why I have no idea as they are huge fun to play.on the ps2 format you only have this game its predecessor save the earth and war of the monsters to pick from.so like I said not much to go on.i have all three games and still find myself going back to save the earth over the other two.why?well i'll explain.war of the monsters is ok but the controls will hamper you and you only have so many monsters, citys to choose from.don't get me wrong its still a hoot to play but for me it misses something.now onto the two Godzilla games and for me the difference's are pretty big.unleashed was also brought out on the wii and as a result got most of the developing as there's more monsters to pick although the citys remain the same a mere six.the way they made this game is all wrong in my opinion as the textures are no were near the standard they could be.ad the fact that the overall outlay of the citys is worse than save the earth in having these strange crystals randomly pointing out of the ground it just ruins the look of the game.the big difference though is the monsters.you would've thought that being an updated version of the genre there be more to choose from but guess what there aren't.now why they did this is beyond me however like I said the wii version had all the development which clearly shows..so in a nutshell this newer version has fewer citys, fewer monsters and looks worse than save the earth!.if you want a decent monster smash up go for save the earth in my opinion its got more citys, more monsters and is alot cheaper than its two rivals.

Good Godzilla
This is our second copy of this game, the first was unfortunately wrecked when someone stood on it. Months of intermittent nagging from my son (age 8) eventually led to the purchase of a second copy which is still enjoyed. We have several games which never get a second play so there must be something good about it as its appeal has endured.

The King of Monsters has seen better treatment
Now, I'm not going to bash this game, I think its amazing, it includes more monsters than the previous game (Save the Earth), and the Wii/PS2 each has characters that the other doesn't (kinda like Pokémon Red/Blue). It has the same basic gameplay as Save the Earth, except that (for me) the controls seem to be a bit stiff, and jumping seems a little awkward. The game has a 'story' mode, where you choose one of three factions to play as, and then a monster, these factions are:-GDF (Global Defense Force)(M.O.G.U.E.R.A, Kiryu)-Earth Defenders (Godzilla 2000, Anguirus, Rodan)-Mutants (Desetroyah, Space Godzilla)Aside from the sometimes awkward controls, the game itself plays rather well, it only has some trouble when there is a lot of action going on (or maybe that's just my PS2). The objective of most of the 'story' missions is to either defeat an enemy monster, team up with an ally to defeat an enemy monster or a random 'minigame', the minigames can get annoying as they usually boil down to 'shoot down X amount of enemy Y with your breath' and feel a little like a late addition. To gain new characters to play as (from each faction) you have to go to the shop and spend your points, but before you can buy a character from a certain faction e.g. Desetroyah, you have to buy the faction first, which costs something like 500,000 points, which isn't extremely hard to get as a playthrough of story even on easy can harbour around 700,000 (If I got these numbers wrong, excuse me).Overall though, this is a fun game, good fighting and a nice array of characters (although if you want Godzilla 1954 or Biollante you'll need the Wii version) the gameplay may get repetitive for some people, but once you manage to get past that it is a genuinely good game.
