What does “corn meal mix” mean? there is a separate product labeled “self-rising,” but this package doesn’t say that.

Corn meal mix is basically the same thing as self rising. Basically the salt and baking have been added. When I make it, the only thing I add is buttermilk. I grease my iron skillet with a big gob of crisp o which makes the bottom nice and crispy.

Do you make corn meal which is NOT self-rising?

I have used Hudson Crème self rising corn meal for years and years for making cornbread. Nothing is as good!

We do offer Big Spring Mill Self-Rising Corn Meal that is different than the corn meal mix that does not contain flour and is gluten free. Both being processed at Big Spring Mill, the Self-Rising Corn Meal is processed in a facility that does not classify as Gluten Free. We also offer Old School Brand Self-Rising Corn Meal that is 100% Gluten Free and processed in an entirely Gluten Free facility. Hope this helps! Thank you for asking.

Best Cornmeal Ever

If you want the absolute best cornbread ever then you will use this Big Spring Mill style cornmeal. Just be sure to always use self-rising & whole buttermilk, & you will have true southern style cornbread!! Yumm,Yumm!!

Not as good as my regular corn meal.

My brother recommended it so I wanted to give it a try. We normally use Hudson Cream cornmeal for cornbread. The Big Spring Mill cornbread was not as good. It was too dry and so much more expensive. Won’t buy it again.
