The hand guard is just that. However, to activate the saw you have to press and hold a button before pulling the trigger. Releasing the button for any reason cuts power to the saw and applies an internal brake

Hello, Thank you for the query. Unfortunately our batteries have to match the voltage of the tool they are being used with. As such your existing battery would be compatible with any DIY & Garden (green) 36V tools and the UniversalChain 18 would be compatible with any of our PBA/Power4All 18V batteries.
