🌳 Grow Deep, Thrive Strong!
The Underhill Deep Drip Irrigation Stake is a 14-1/2-inch watering spike designed to enhance the growth of trees and bushes with shallow roots. It delivers water, oxygen, and nutrients directly to the soil, ensuring efficient irrigation while conserving water and minimizing evaporation. Compatible with various irrigation systems, this durable ABS plastic tool is perfect for juvenile plants and helps reduce surface runoff and weed growth.

Excellent irrigation tool
These things work great. My new saplings started showing improvement immediately. They were easy to get into the ground and even when it rains, they help absorb the water even deeper into the ground. I use 2 per small tree and watch where the water disperses and then move them if necessary to ensure uniform irrigation. I add a slow drip hose to each hole for a few minutes and then turn on the soaker hose around them to get the feeder roots as well as even more deep watering as the spikes absorb the surrounding water. These are a must have for strong establishment of new trees as well as deep irrigation for already established specimens. Roots go where water flows.

Watering spikes
Where were these things when I started planting trees and bushes in my yard? The difference in my plants from using drip irrigation to watering spikes is amazing. I tell all my friends who have trouble with their plants to try these spikes. They are very sturdy and well made. Cap comes off to easily insert the drip hose line into it and then replace cap. Gets water way down where the roots are. That's a big issue living in the desert southwest area.

Great for deep watering but use an auger to make the hole.
This works as a great addition to my drip irrigation system by adding a drip line into the top of this unit. The spike provides water to the deep roots of larger shrubs and trees. The spike should be able to penetrate sandy beach soil on its own. This spike unit is sturdy but not enough to pound into very hard soil with 1 inch rocks to a depth of more then 3 inches. My dirt is sufficiently hard and water resistant so that a 1/2 inch rebar with a sharp tip could not penetrate more than 7 inches using a heavy framing hammer; even after days of drip watering to soften the soil. That hard soil is why I needed a deep watering spike.I had planned on making the hole before installing the spike and ordered an auger on Amazon (Jisco JL24 Earth Auger, 1-3/4-Inch by 24-Inch Length). The auger provided a method to remove small rocks and loosen the soil. Even though loose dirt fell back into the hole, the spike could be easily inserted with moderate pounding. Tip - Hold a wood block on top of the spike when pounding it in to avoid damaging the cap.

Watering spikes
They were of good quality but wasn’t impressed with their performance!

Great idea and product
I live in a hot and dry area and run a lot of water to fruit trees and other trees on my property. Previously I had multiple drip lines on each tree. As you can imagine, the results were mixed. A lot of water evaporates and little penetrates to the roots unless you run the system for a long time.I first found these at a big box store and tried them on three trees. Huge improvement! My ground is very hard, but I used a large drill bit to start a hole and then hammered these in using a sledgehammer. I removed the caps before hammering. You can hit them hard without breaking them. Running water into the hole helped, too. Once in place, these things work great. I went on Amazon and ordered a bunch more. I now run my system shorter and get more water to the roots of the trees. I am already getting better/more fruit and seeing healthier trees. Awesome.

Good and sturdy - made in USA.
Excellent quality, made in USA., heavyweight plastic. I wish more products were made as well as this. Simple and effective. My only concern is if it could clog over time. There are small holes inside each of the larger holes, so hopefully that keeps it from clogging. Should be easy to connect almost any type of watering tube. You just stick your flexible tube into the top and done.

A huge improvement for my thirsty trees
We have sandy top soil so when I try to water my trees with a drip system the water just beads off and rolls downhill. I drove two of these into the ground and they are able to get a lot more of it into the ground. I was worried I was going to break them when hammering them in to the ground, but they are very tough and went in easily with a rubber mallet. I was surprised how easily they penetrated the ground.5GPH was too much for my soil so they leaked out the top. I went down to 2-3 GPH and almost all of it absorbs into the ground now. My myoporum trees no longer look like they are dying and have a lot of new leaves growing, and actually have white flowers coming back now!

These are worth it, with a caveat
I really wanted to be able to just stick a hose in the top and deep water that way, but water sprays out from the side holes, and the top. I just could not get a good enough seal by holding it, and there was no way to hook the hose up to it. I really, really, did not want a water line going up the side of a very large planter with a tree in it, but that is what I ended up doing, I purchased two, one for each side, put a drip line in each, and it seems to be watering very well. It is just an aesthetic thing for me, so I've gotten over it. However, I did take off a star because the product info make it look like a hose can go on/in this thing, and unless I am doing something so very wrong, it does not, plus the water spraying out of the side holes defeats the purpose. Also, a standard drip line was too thick to go in the side holes and work well, so I had to run them from the top, using the side slot. I think this watering steak offers enough solutions for the right application, you just have to have that particular equipment to make it work the way you want.
