At launch this processor was listed by Intel as being priced a $339. Can you please explain why the item is marked up to $379.99? $40 extra???

Keep in mind that original list prices do not necessarily go down after release. Video cards are notorious for huge price hikes after the initial reference cards sell out and the demand is well above the supply. I am not sure how often processors have the same thing happen, as my i7 920 from 2010 is more than adequate to this day, but with tech items you should always prepare for supply and demand to have a huge impact on frequent pricing shifts.

Would it be wise to upgrade my current i5 4690K to this?

Performance wise, it wouldn't be worth the price. Both are fast cpu's, and are overclockable with the z97 chipset. Depending on how much ram you have installed, I would go from 8GB to 16GB. If your gaming on a budget, I would look for a GPU upgrade also.

Release on June 25th, now? Amazon keeps changing release dates, 27th, 25th and 20th......

yea i ordered mine on june 16 hoping to get it on the 20th then got email telling me it will arrive at my house on the 27th. Nothing came and was not charged on that day so i called amazon and was told they were sold out. They switched me to circus city now it wont arrive till july 2 so i cancelled my order and picked it up from frys on the 27th

Why does the listing have this statement in it: "Not compatible with Z87 or Intel Motherboards". I did not find this statement on the Intel site. Please explain.

Runs fine in my Dell XPS 8700 with Z87 MB (& A11 BIOS update), though wished it was Z97 for fast PCIe & M.2 SSD's!

Ultra Fast Processor

So good so far, feeling like I've mini super computer installed at my home. A perfect workstation and best for gaming and graphics. Rated 7.8 in Win 7 x64 and 8.3 in Win 8 x64. Just go for it, can be over clocked up to 5.9 safely.

Awesome, Bang for Buck performer

I upgraded from an AMD 8350 processor and immediately noticed the difference. I have not been able to get this thing to lag, regardless of what I do! I once installed 3 games simultaneously while having 8 tabs open in Torch browser and this did not even break into a sweat. And did I mention this thing clocks 4 ghz out of the box? It has turbo boost up to 4.4 Ghz. I paired this with a Asus Maximus Ranger Motherboard (Best mobo ever!) and a Samsung SSD. The result? From cold boot to desktop in 12 seconds flat (Windows 8.1)! Installed a cooler master hyper 212 evo with this and I have a silent killer rig. I highly recommend this processor. Even the AMD processor is good, however the heat generation is excessive in that one. Kudos to Amazon for a really quick delivery even after I goofed up with the address.

Good processor, bit pricey

Awesome process, it uses low power and more image processing and gaming it work like a boss. Pricey compared to it AMD, but it generates the half the amount of heat with half the amount of power. I am currently using it to run a small home server and it works like a champ.
