So much fun!
I had a lot of fun playing with a borrowed pair of poi, so I bought my own pair of Spin-lights from Amazon for $20. It included the pair of poi with batteries, their strings, an instructional DVD and a carry case. I'd rate them 5 stars because they're a great value for the price. If you're considering learning poi and don't know if you want to do it or not, this is a fantastic starter set. The way the poi are attached to the string at 2 places and the built-in swivel help them hold up to rough use and also help them tangle less.If you spin poi a lot, I suggest buying this set and making some upgrades in 2 areas- the finger tabs that you hold on to, and the string length adjusters. The edges of the nylon finger tabs can rub your adjacent fingers raw if you practice a lot; I'd suggest swapping out for softer leather tabs instead. The string length adjusters on this are kind of flat and broad and thus can cause the strings to tangle at that point; rounder, more streamlined hardware would lessen that effect. Now, that being said, this set is fantastic because it's very easy to change out any of that for something better, or modify what's there. These poi come with a carry sack and a DVD. I don't use the carry sack because it's black and too easily lost in the dark. However the DVD was a definite nice-to-have bonus. I was able to pick up on some of the tricks right off, some came with practice, and some I just didn't get. However, for the ones I didn't get, I at least knew the names of the trick and was able to search you-tube instructional videos to find one that made sense to me.I've had my original set of Spin-lights for about 6 months now. My two children and I practice with them a lot. Even my mostly-inactive niece wants to get up and dance if she can use my poi. This set has been able to so far withstand all of us and they're still very bright and working fine. Note- something has come loose in one of them and rattles around sometimes, but it still works as well as ever.I'm ordering two more sets today- one pair for a gift, and one pair to have as a loaner pair because everyone wants to play with them. These are wonderful.

Must have for beginners and a definite suggestion for experienced spinners.
I am relatively new to the poi community (having only been spinning for about 5-6 months) and I will say that in the 3 months I've owned these poi I haven't had a single moment that I didn't like them. They are sturdy, reliable, very bright as compared to other LED poi I've seen out there, extremely fun to spin, and if you're newer you wont get hurt when you mess up and hit yourself (unless you rack yourself in the crotch but even then, because they are made of a softer plastic, it's a LOT more forgiving than if you were using something like Kevlar or wood). So here are some things I'd like to point out about this product.First is the price and I just want to say flat out that it's simply amazing. For the $20 value that you can buy these for you are getting more than a lot of LED poi that are 3 times the price. I have friends who have LED poi that they spent $90 and they are not even half as bright as these poi here. Not only that but they don't have the ability to change color or strobe like these do. Needless to say a number of my spinner friends are looking into buying these LED poi. The price and the quality you get for it are insanely good. Almost too good to be true in my opinion but as a buyer I can say that it's no hoax, you get a lot more for $20 than what you paid for. AND THAT'S JUST THE POI BALLS THEMSELVES! Included with your buy is a carry bag, instructional DVD, a business card, and a small screw driver to install the INCLUDED batteries! The price in materials for this deal is easily higher than the price you pay for the finished product. And again, everything is made very well.Second is the quality. As stated above, you get an amazing product. The poi are bright, durable, soft enough that they don't hurt too bad when they hit you but made to take a hit, they change color, you can lock in whatever color you'd like, they can strobe, the finger holds and cords are very sturdy and comfortable, the line length is adjustable, they are weighted nicely, and they are easy to pick up whether you are a total noob or the Chuck Norris of poi spinners. These are, by themselves, worth a lot more than the $20 you will pay for them. The absolute only thing that could be done better on these is the knot near the ball that holds the little metal rigging to the rest of the line. Its not super tight and the end of the cord is just melted so that the knot shouldn't come undone. It's a nylon cord though so if your knot ever does come open just reknot it and carefully melt the entire knot into itself. you'll never have an issue with it then. Its barely worth mentioning as you can fix it with a lit match and some patience but if you've read this far it means that you're being a good buyer, doing your homework, and you'd want to know these things. And while I'm on quality, the included carry bag is very sturdy, the DVD is pretty in depth and helpful, and while the included batteries aren't fantastic for life, they will give you a number of days to play with your poi and learn how they work as far as the lighting functions go (and grabbing new batteries is easy. A little pricey just like any other watch battery but you can find them almost anywhere).Last is the education and entertainment aspect. The DVD included has a pretty big number of tricks, spin types, transitions, and other fancy moves which are all broken down, explained, shown from multiple angles, with and without slow motion, and tips on how to practice each trick. They are broken into 3 categories: beginner, intermediate, and expert. From experience I can tell you that labels really don't determine how hard something will be for certain people but rather what they catch onto the best. For example, I can do more than half the intermediate stuff and 1-2 tricks of the expert category but I can't figure out how to move my arms for a few of the beginner moves. Just try something and see what works. The best part about the whole thing is that the instructors make it very clear that you don't have to practice based specifically on what they are showing. They encourage experimentation and variation of what they show so that you can make your own unique spinning style. If you've made it this far into my review you deserve a cookie. In seriousness though, whether you are a beginner or an expert, an everyday spinner or a once a week spinner, whether you are young or older, buying for yourself or a friend, or even if you're looking for a new hobby or seeking a new set of poi, I highly HIGHLY recommend this product. It's very well made, it's a steal for the price, it's fun, a great workout, you can take the poi to dance clubs, special events like Burning Man (I'm a burner and I can say these are Burning Man approved) or just spin in public where people can watch you day or night. You'll learn, you'll teach, you'll entertain and have a great time doing it all. Have a happy spin everyone ^_^

Fun beginners set of poi
Nice, adjustable-length poi if you want to try it out without spending a fortune. Look great, well constructed, the double loop grip is comfortable and secure. If you are not very tall, you might want to shorten them up a bit more, which would only require untying and retying a knot. Mine have taken some abuse over a week of playing, what with hitting me, the ceiling, and such, and are undamaged -- the electronics still work fine. I contacted the makers with a question, they were responsive and helpful.Only down side is they are a bit lightweight, making learning stalls and such difficult, but there are plenty of other things you can learn and work on, and can put on a pretty nifty light show with these poi and a little practice. If you decide to really get heavily into it, you can grab a heavier set for learning tricks that are easier with a bit more weight.Manufacturer links to a number of helpful videos to learn how to do various moves, through their website or an ap for your phone. I've been very pleased.
