Yes it will protect you and your dog. Just becareful and don't accidentally hit him with it

Q: Can it be used to help break up dog fights

Dogs shouldn't be off leash to attack other dogs to be shocked. I'm sure it is preferable to a bullet. Low voltage to break the attack drive. Used it once the owner of the other dog thanked me for not macing the dog which causes a lot of unnecessary suffering long after the attack.

Q: Also what batteries does it use? High-drain 18650 rechargeables? Something else?

Just ordinary flashlight batteries (C cells if my memory serves me correctly), and they last many months.

Q: Can you use this for home or self defense against a person?

Sure, it will put you on your ass. But it doesn't stay hot. So they will get up... I've been shocked by it, it hurt but when your punching cattle, work needs to be done. Yayahhhehah
