Get Through MRCPsych: Preparation for the CASC, Second edition

This book is helpful with the exact wording of interview questions covering the main topics though the specialty sections could be expanded to include the more difficult psychotherapy or forensic areas. This book is to be used with other material.

Im due to sit the casc in a months time. I found this book so far quite a helpful starter. The exam is quite daunting and although there seems to be a lot of criticism of its simplicity I thought thatit was pitched well for beginning the revision. I bet in the heat of the exam I will be glad to remember the basics and the simple structures for tackling the stations rather than getting muddled over the complex stuff and run out of time. After all 7 minutes is hardly anything!It would be nice to have had a few mini chapters on forensic , child, and learning disability ideally though. Overall Im glad I bought it.

Sree Murthy has just tried to make some money off vulnerable CASC candidates. The book is not much different from the one written for part 1 OSCEs. Just minor revisions and change of title to CASC. It does not address the depth of knowledge required for CASC and gives no clue about management tasks in 2nd linked station. People doing stand alone stations in future CASCs may find it bit helpful but for those bits only. Sree is certainly guilty of lying and giving an inaccurate description of the book. It is quite clear that he has no idea of what the new CASC exam is about!

The author used the vulnerability of the CASC candidates and reprinted an old book titled "Preparation for the OSCE" then changed its title to "Preparation for the CASC" . The two things are quite different . I don't know what the authors' motive was, what I know is that he has ruined his reputation with such an action.

It is clear what matters to this author: not helping candidates pass the exam but making money quickly with minimum work. Knowing how worried candidates are about the new exams he has seen fit to exploit their worries by quickly issuing a new edition of his old book under a different title. One assumes he does not make enough money from his 'SPMM' revision course, which does little to recommend him either.

The book is almost identical to the one written by the author for the OSCes. THE BOOK IS EXACTLY THE SAME EXCEPT the preface and number of the pages , the auther to protect himself from any legal action ,he wrote on the front cover SECOND EDITION

I had to give 1 star rating for this book as this is the minimum star rating allowed by Amazon otherwise this book is far from being given any star at all.This gives minimum information about CASK and as other reviews say, it is just a repetition of previous books which are good for old OSCEs. I hope author will revise it after CASK is held in Jun 2008 and improve it for good. I have just wasted my £30, please don't waste yours.

This book has no relavence to the new pattern of exam CASC... the author did not make any effort to write it in the new perspective.. actually its practically the same as his previous book (which I bought as well).
