The casing is aluminum with a clear but solid bezel which is a nice upgrade to plastic casings. The unit has a reassuring weight for its size which is always an indicator to me that quality parts were used and it is durable.Opening the package I was quite surprised and pleased with its appearance and it is quite concealable if you have the wish to do so. There is a solid metal clip that grips even shirt pockets quite snugly.I am also pleased that the manufacturer chose to use keys rather than a software based UI. This makes the operation much simpler and quicker to learn and use.I gave only 4 stars due to the learning curve required to fully understand how to operate the unit. But with some practice its ease of function compensates for the time invested to learn its numerous functions.Sound qualityThe sound quality is quite good for both the recording and play back. The speakers are surprising clear with a high definition of sound and plenty of volume.Playback and record controlsThe controls use the standard layout and symbols used since there were tape decks and these have been carried forward to our electronic devices and our phones.RecordingThere are plentiful modes to choose from in recording. One may change the bit rate and there is a great voice activated function so it records only when there is sound and it pauses when there is a break in sound. I tested this function and it seamlessly omits the breaks and thus saves a lot of memory.Wish ItemDisplayThe display is small and screen is narrow. The narrowness of the display forces all the menus to scroll and you have to be patient to read the scrolling menu in order to know what the options are or to choose the correct option if they look similar.Given the length of the glass bezel that is blank, I recommend that the manufacturer use a longer display and to transpose the read out to use the length that is available. This will allow larger print and full menus to be shown.

This is an amazing device. It's really small and thin. It's metal with discreet slide switches and buttons. The display is small, but it turns out to be very easy to set up and use. I used a hood magnifier to read the display and learn the functions. Once you practice with it, you can maneuver without actually trying to read the titles. Or if you are older, you can use reading glasses or your bifocals. I misplaced the instructions, so I just played with it to learn the operation This thing is loud and if you plug it into your computer the files are accessible. If you turn the monitor function on and use earbuds, you can use it as a hearing aid. I had an ordering binge on Amazon with their Lightning specials on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and got it for $20.00. Once you learn and practice the operation, it's really easy to use.

I needed a device that can record 1-2 hours length lectures, and this work perfectly for my purpose. The screen will turn off during use but don't worry, it's still recording. This feature help you save battery. And after 1-2 lectures, I still have around 70 hours free memory

This was a gift to a great nephew who was starting college. He was delighted to receive it . I also gave him a book to read so he could get used to doing so, he liked that also!

Definitely worth the price. Sturdy craftsmanship and good sound quality on playbacks.

I can't really fully review this yet, as I haven't figured out the complete operation of it because I cannot READ THE SCREEN :( I don't see a brightness control and it soooooo very tiny... I'm sure I'll eventually understand how to use it, and it will be fine...

Using it for my field research and found it super useful. Good battery time and crisp sound. Would recommend to those looking for budget voice recorder
