Great book even though it's outdated
I bought this book because I'm interested in investing in semiconductor industry and wanted to learn more about how semiconductors work and are made. This is a fantastic intro for non-engineers. The only issue is that it's nearly 20 years old. I really hope they update it. Nevertheless, many of the fundamentals still apply.

Great book overview about the industry
Good overview in general about the industry. Though some of the statistics are only up to around 2000. But it is still useful. This is not a book about how semiconductor works, neither about how to make chips in details. If you want to spend only one week on understanding what semiconductor industry is doing, the book is for you.

WOW - I feel 10 times smarter right now...
This book is a must read for anyone in the technology industry - even a software guy like me found the content and processes explained fascinating! I would also urge anyone investing in public companies like Intel, Sun, etc.... to read this and truly understand what those companies do. There were several points in the book where the author would explain something, and the curious side of my brain would question "hrm, I wonder why it's called that... or how that came to be" - and without fail... the next paragraph of the book knew exactly what my curiosity would be and spelled it out. A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BOOK!

An interesting overview of semiconductors
Probably most interesting to those with little knowledge of semiconductors. There are a number of goofs with measurement units.Still, it provides a good overview for technically trained persons who are not in the industry.

An entertaining intro to semiconductors
Simple enough for a Wall Street investor, yet even industry insiders will learn something. The book gives a basic overview of everything from wafer test to IP to market economics. This is the best intro to semiconductors, even 13 years after publication.
