Wow!!!
The media could not be loaded. Before buying the kit, give serious consideration to the lighting kit as well. The build is pretty straightforward, and most of the pieces go together well. The body of the ship is two giant pieces, and if you're trying to balance the wires and the neck, piecing them together can pose a few issues. Putty put most of those issues to right. Without the light kit, you could piece this together in an afternoon. Painting the ship offers a ton of possibilities. The box artwork is very specific about what colors go where. If you like greens, then go for it. I went with the paint scheme on the miniature hanging in the Smithsonian. There's also a video on Youtube showing a production model in the Ford Museum. The kit is molded in black plastic, so light bleed isn't a concern. It does make it advisable to put down a light primer coat. The light kit offers several photo etch parts, but in retrospect I would probably not use them if I were to attempt this build again. Very few small pieces. There are a few misprints in the instructions, so consult one of the many instructional videos on Youtube for some clarification. If you opt for the light kit, pay extra attention to the order of assembly. You will need superglue, and perhaps a little bit of electrical tape. The battery compartment poses some challenges during assembly and painting, and you might consider taping the power source in place. That part of the assembly posed some challenges. After it's completed, you will have an impressive piece. Everyone who has seen the building process has been impressed with its scale, lighting effects, and detail. Oh, this thing has tons of detail all over the surface and lots of opportunities for weathering and panel staining. Decals are included, but I have not used them yet. They seem more geared to the recommended paint scheme. The box contains all the painting instruction and makes for a great presentation. If not for the size, I might have kept and saved it. If you've never done a lighting kit, don't worry. They designed the two kits to work flawlessly together.

Great fit and impressive scale
In the past years sci fi subject matter kits were usually poorly fitting and inaccurate. I have to say this is a great example of modern tooling. Fit is excellent if you take time to line everything up correctly with dry fit prior to assembly. Very accurate and detailed. The only downside is the instructions are kind of vague about where some of the small, fine detail parts on the hull go but if you have references you can figure it out without too much trouble.

Awesome kit
This kit is best for experienced modelers. The detail is amazing. Molded in black, so there's no light shine through if you install the lighting kit (I recommend getting that too). It's also best to get a type of model glue that welds the parts together (I bought Testors Cement for Plastic). To follow the paint scheme on the box, you'll have to order from several different sources, as not all colors are available from the same vendor, including Amazon.

Big model
This 1/350 is a tad bit larger then the normal Star Trek kits you tend to get. Perfect though for lighting. It is much more screen accurate to the model used in the motion picture. Decals are better. If you are a die hard model builder be sure to find the PE kit as well.

Creates a striking model when completed with the light set.
Used for display. Arrived well before estimated date. Expensive in Canadian dollars especially with the light kit.
