Great desktop reference
A very wise co-worker recommended this book and I say a thank you each time I see or use the book. I went to work for the a government entity after almost 20 years in the private sector and the public sector has its own unique way of doing everything which includes highly unique writing styles, I am sure some of the uniqueness is due to the number of lawyers in the public sector. To the point, I draft pieces for the public and this is a great little reference book that allows me to quickly look-up how to write in a manner the public is accustomed to vs "agency" speak. It is also a good little review book for anyone who has been out of school for a bit and cannot figure out why some of the young new hirers seem to leave commas out in lists among other odd new writing styles. The new accepted grammar just goes to show you your English teacher was not right, "proper" grammar does change over time.

A style guide in plain English
This book was my constant companion in High School. As a professional, though, there are a few better choices: both the The Associated Press Stylebook 2016 and any version of The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition . This book is written in plain, everyday english and is a wonderful part of any library on English grammar. I love the humor and how the text is interspersed with clever quotations and humorous. Buy this book with a few professional resources to get a complete coverage of the English language.

A Must-Have For Those Who Wish To Write Properly
I purchased this book several years ago, but had misplaced it. I recently purchased it again because it is such a useful reference tool and I found myself time and again wishing that I could pull it out of my desk drawer. I am an attorney and one's ability to write properly elevates his or her credibility with other attorneys, clients, and judges. This book is easy to use so that time is never wasted looking up information. The explanations and examples are very straight forward so that most of the time I am able to recall the examples and don't have to look up the information again. I also bought a copy for home for my kids to use since undoubtedly they will soon realize that they have to "unlearn" their poor habits picked up while text messaging.

Its OK...
The writer tried to create a comprehensive book, however it was at times daunting to read.I was looking for a book that would improve my writing skills, but instead found my self nodding off trying to read it.The contents are great and well written. ( Obviously ) but the style was just off for me personally. Making it seem like I was back in college reading English textbooks, where I often wanted to nod off there too.It was OK, but didn't quite hit the mark for this reader. But I can appreciate all the work the author put into the book.

This has been a constant companion at my writing desk ...
This has been a constant companion at my writing desk for many years. Clear and concise information and examples of proper use of words and punctuation. I'd give it six stars if possible because Venolia effectively argues in favor of the serial comma.I bought this copy to give to a friend who is beginning to write stories.

A straight-forward, no nonsense text for anyone who wants to write right!
I've been using this text personally and with creative writing students for about 20 years. Sadly I lost my print copy during an office refurb so I simply *had* to buy a new one. It's saved me a few blushes over the years!

Meh. You have better options available.
This book can certainly help some people but I won't ever recommend this book to all. There are better books available, like: "The joy of Syntax" by June Casagrande; "Eats, shoots and leaves" by Lynne Truss; "Dreyer's English" by Benjamin Dreyer; and the last shall be "Woe is I" by Patricia T. O'Conner. As I proposed in the first sentence, this book can certainly help some people but I won't recommend this book to all.

Wastage of Money
The book is meaningless. There is NO Grammar in it. Third class pages are there. SIMPLY WORTHLESS. It does not worth even a single star.
