The average shooter probably doesn't need this. I didn't need it. I had my scope zeroed in at 250 yards on my AR-10...shot sub minute of angle. For what I do...plenty good enough and then some. But...I'm one of those kind that figures if it can be perfected for this little bit of money...why not do it. Looks like fun.If you're using two piece rings and mounts...start with the pointy pieces of this rig. Align the rings to where the two point are as close to aligned one with the other as you can get. If you're using a single piece mount where the ring bases are a part of the mounting base...not much you can do to align those.Next, mount the lapping bar in the rings as if mounting your scope with a generous amount of lapping compound and either start lapping by hand or with the drill attachment and drill. Don't over tighten the rings or the lapping bar will not turn freely. After you lap for a bit...slightly tighten the rings again. Continue this process until you feel the bar and lapping compound start to get sticky.Remove the top of the rings and inspect the bearing surfaces of the upper and lower rings. You will begin to see where the discrepancies in the factory finish are. Some of the bearing surface will appear lapped and some parts will retain the original surface color. Lap until all the original surface color is gone.Proceed in this manner through the finer grits and when you finish with the 600 grit lapping compound...you'll look in amazement at a a set of scope rings that are nearly perfectly aligned and ready to lovingly caress your scope with a very minimal of misalignment and torque on your scope.Will it help you shoot straighter...likely not...but by George you'll have piece of mind in knowing that you did as much as you could do to give yourself every chance.

I just used this to mount a Nightforce scope. I purchased Vortex rings and I wanted to ensure that the rings had perfect alignment before I ruined an expensive scope. The alignment tool told me that the rings were lined up nicely and I almost decided not to use the lapping tool, I'm glad I did. After a few minutes of lapping I removed the tool and the top of the rings to see that the shinny spots that were making contact with the tool were spread around the rings in a few spots but not a uniform area to contact the scope. I continued to lap the rings until I had nice even contact all the way around the rings. I now know that my scope is being held as solid as possible.This was an easy tool to use and even though you may not use it often I'd recommend having it in your tool box to use any time you mount a new scope or even if you move rings from one rifle to another.

I used the 30mm Alignment and Lapping Kit today and was very pleased with its ease of use and precision with setting up my scope. The Alignment and Lapping bar are made of very good quality material. They are very heavy. I ordered them without the hard plastic case. I don't think this will be a problem the box them came in will work as I they won't be moved around much. If I every need them in a different size a (1') I'll need a case then. Great product to set a new scope up with.

I did returned to get the whole kit but using the same one out of the kit works great, save some time use a drill when lapping your mount rings.

While aligning and lapping scope rings is not absolutely necessary, it may well be necessary for 1,68 yards distances. The kit brings all that is needed for a lifetime and more. The cardboard box was reinforced by epoxy painting and should last a long time.

Good product. Works as advertised. The kit straightened out a set of scope rings that were not straight. Now the rings hold the scope properly. It's easy to do. Using a drill is the easiest way.

The Wheeler scope alignment kit will definitely help you properly mount your rifle scope. A great tool to have in your gun maintainence room.

Once you try lapping you will never install a Scope with out it
