The King in Yellow / The Mystery of Choice (Collected Weird Fiction of Robert W. Chambers)

I first want to say how I love the integrity of the publisher. A previous Amazon purchase of this title yielded a horrific, careless and immature formatting that made the book hard to read.I’m glad I paid extra for this version. The formatting is perfect and I think the introduction was great.I read TKIY years ago and loved reading it again. This was my first time reading TMOC and I enjoyed it as well. Chambers is such a great writer: his dialogue and pacing keeps you turning pages and his skill in wierd fiction is unparalleled. While Lovecraft is ridiculously verbose and Blackwood almost self-indulgent in his narration, Chambers keeps things moving and interesting. He truly was a gifted t writer.

Overall, a great find. I haven't actually read any of the Mystery of Choice yet, but The King in Yellow - from The Repairer of Reputations to The Yellow Sign - makes for a fantastic weird fiction read. A must-read for fans of weird fiction and cosmic horror alike!What I like about this book in particular is that it not only includes Cassilda's Song and all four of the short stories related to the Carcosa Mythos (which not all of the books I've found on Amazon do), but the cover features a higher-resolution version of the cover art found on the original copies of The King in Yellow, which is a great touch.

Includes the poem!!Ditches the romance stories, keeps the spooky ones. Adds a few mysteries to make up the difference. Very nice!

This doesn’t include the last three stories in “The King in Yellow”. Granted, the omitted ones are the more romantic stories that most aren’t interested in, but I still wanted to give them a go.
