Great Drum In The Right Hands
Came in 8 days, great packaging, well built instrument with solid construction, looks great, and the sound is full, round, and warm!! This nifty drum suits my home recording needs beautifully! I ordered the perfect music stand (Musician's Gear Deluxe Conductor Music Stand) from Amazon and now, it has a home when not playing it that I can place anywhere and have a small foot print for storage. I set the drum on the stand in the horizontal position and that way, I can play the drum at any height! It's really great to purchase a quality product that in MADE IN THE USA AND WITH PRIDE!!!!! Thank you Timber Drum Company!PS: As of 01/02/2016------- I carefully drilled a mic port hole to fit the diameter of a lavelier lapel mic (without the clip, just the mic) at the exact center of the bottom of this drum. It works great except the highest note is really loud and had to be dampened after a fashion. The sound of the drum patched into my recording equipment is greatly improved and fuller without compromising the integrity of the drum itself!!

Durable. Pleasant sound. Looks great!
At first my wife thought I was a masochist for buying our kids a drum, but this actually has a very pleasant sound to it that I don’t mind, it’s quite relaxing. This sound is much better than hearing them bang some pots together. It has 6 notes. Very durable, it’s been rolled around by twin 8 year olds and still sounds the same. Even the included mallets are still working which I honestly did not expect. We also don’t mind keeping this on display as it looks really cool and is a neat conversation starter for company.

The left side just doesn't sing.
I loved so much about the look and sound. The right hand slits are quite musical. But those on the left are muffled and dull. You can use one side or the other. If you play on both sides at the same time, there is no way to strike the drum differently to get a cohesive volume. It's not just the difference in timbre of the lower tones.I half love it!I had to return it. If they could figure out a better way to cut those troublesome tongues, it would be great.

Good Informal Fun - not for "serious" musicians
I bought (4), but will return two of them. I was hoping they were better tuned, consistently, so that more than one could be played together. They are well enough tuned to be enjoyed as solo "instruments", but are more like high-quality toys than musical instruments. They can provide some stress relief as one zones out while playing it, and unique melodies can be found in each drum. They play best with light taps, not heavy strikes. They are certainly not in the league of Steve Roberts' and Michael Thiele's drums, in either tone or tuning, but those higher-end drums cost several hundred dollars - this affordable option is still fun and playable. Any non-musician who tries it will enjoy getting lost for a few minutes, becoming mesmerized by the feedback. Musicians accustomed to better-tuned instruments may lose interest quickly, but they will still smile.PROS:- made in USA, not imported junk. (still, don't expect a Cadillac ... it's more of a Chevy)- heavy, solid, well made- nice, attractive heavy-grained wood (Ash and Oak)- price, includes malletsCONS:-inconsistent tuning- logo on side detracts from the natural wood (should be smaller)- low volume, if best tone is desired. (can also be played loud enough such that nearby items vibrate and buzz, but the tuning then suffers)

Texas Slit Drum Is JUNK!!
Received Texas Slit Drum - 3 of the 6 tongues do not sound at all. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE THAT A COMPANY CAN SHIP OUT A NON-FUNCTIONAL PRODUCT. The drum itself has a nice design and look, but it is totally defective. CHECK THE REVIEWS - OTHERS HAVE SAID THEIR DRUMS DID NOT WORK EITHER!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS SLIT DRUM. THE CREATING COMPANY IS PRODUCING JUNK!!!!
