Replacement
Needed a replacement for the new chair because the gas-cylinder was just to high on the lowest setting. Got first one that was to short but this one seems to be perfect. Can't tell how long it will last since just got it and installed it. It is a bit softer and goes a bit lower when you first sit on it on the highest setting but in our case it needs to go a bit lower anyway. It looks very sturdy but how long it will hold the gas is a different issue, only time will tell. The price was cheap enough anyway.

Great Replacement, Functional and Looks Nice!
I have a stool I use to work in the kitchen, and the cylinder on this stool gave out. I purchased this replacement, knowing it would extend a couple of inches higher because I am tall and can use those extra inches at times. My only complaint is that it was VERY difficult to get the old cylinder off (and I now see why many of these cylinders come with a removal tool), but that's no fault of this product. And frankly, if I wasn't disabled it probably would NOT have been so hard to get off, and the handymen who did it for me (out for other odd jobs) had it off in less than a minute. This cylinder is very functional, lifting and lowering with ease (even with my weak, disabled hands), and looks very nice with its shiny chrome finish. It seems quite sturdy, and I expect it to last for years.

get it!!!
I love it!!! although I don't need the weight capacity I am 6'2" and any one else with a bad back knows how rough it is getting out of a chair that's too low! this piston solved that! it can actually be adjusted too high for me and i'm using it right now in my sectary chair in front of the computer. I hope time proves it's a quality product but in the mean time off to order another one right now!!!

Would like to see a longer size
I would like to see a longer chrome tube and full extension for saddle stools.

Changed my regular office chair to a high/drafting chair
I purchased a regular height office chair on a big sale. I initially needed a drafting height chair, but didn't want to spend over $200 when it was only needed because we are quarantined at home. When the $50 chair arrived it was obvious it was too low. I debated returning it, but then looked up this route. This was under $20 and worked immediately. Installation is typical if you've ever replaced one of these on an office chair. The difficulty is not the fault of the replacement strut, but the old chair. It works great and it attractive.

Does not stay up!
Bought this as a direct replacement for my favorite office chair. I purposely bought the taller one, and the higher weight capacity since I have kids that will sit on my lap as I work. It installed simply, as expected. It seemed to be of decent quality. Just after the return window closed, I noticed it wasn't the height I like. I blamed a kid and moved on. But it wasn't a kid, the thing just loses pressure. It's not fast, it's a very slow leak, but over the course of a few hours, I realize my wrists hurt, and I'm now down lower than the desk. SUPER FRUSTRATING!

Tends to lower when adjusting yourself
I purchased this cylinder to convert a normal office chair to a tall chair I can use at my high top dining table (estimated equal to counter height). Once I finally pried off the cylinder original to the chair (easier in theory than done), this one was easy to install. Stick it in and add some pressure. I do notice it doesn't have a solid fit on the top where the cylinder connects to the chair, but it doesn't cause any stabilization issues and I actually like it for sitting slightly reclined back. So it may actually be operating as intended, I am uncertain. The height does not remain locked in place. It rises when I get up, lowers slightly as I sit down which has been the case since first use. I do also notice that as I adjust my weight significantly or sometimes when getting up and sitting back down the height decreases. A few times each day I'm raising the height back up. This has recently gotten worst after about 2 months of using. It's not significantly disruptive as of now so I'll continue to use it.

This murders!! stock gas cylinders. My chairs original stock parts... cont'd below
weren't worth the man hours/machine oil/time/and other resources from which it was constructed. There's a good example of waste. Cheap things and cheap people shouldn't exist. From weight (heavier and harder metal used for the body) to throw (drafter chair for me: correct height - high) over what I had received with my stock chair are night and day. I'm glad I completed this upgrade. You don't have to second guess...it's a very good replacement part (8" throw and 450lb weight limit) is more than adequate. Find quick video on the Tube of U to refresh your "how to do" and you'll be sailing just fine. Mallet, Pipe Wrench (Monkey Bar), and that's all. Great product.
