A valuable tome for your collection that just begs to be played
I decided to grab a copy of this text after watching Professor Dungeon Master over on YouTube. He uses it as the basis for a campaign that he's running called the "Caves of Carnage", and I have to say, it's exactly what he touts it to be: a goldmine of ideas and small dungeons for beginning players. I had a copy of this back when I was a kid, but I never played it. That's a shame really! The Keep on the Borderlands is a classic module that serves as the bedrock for a new campaign and it's chalked with plenty of adventures. So why get this particular version? True, you can get a similar amount of mileage out of the original modules (which you can still find at reasonable prices on the web), but you get so much more with this book by Goodman games. First off are the interesting articles written by some of the figures of classic D&D, including Gary's son Luke. Next is you get four (sort of) different modules! You get the original copies of B1 In Search of the Unknown. two versions of the Keep on the Borderlands, and then you get 5E versions of both modules! So you get to see the original texts of these classic Basic D&D modules and you get to see up-to-date versions of this modules that keep the original text from the modules but use the modern mechanics of 5E. Players and DMs like me who prefer the classic mechanics also benefit from the larger maps, and bigger text in the classic modules (us old gamers need it now-a-days!).Honestly, the only down size in my opinion is the sheer size of the book! It weighs in at 382 pages and is the size of your old college textbooks. It would be a unwieldy companion for your gaming table, but it is an excellent reference to use while planning. It's best friend is a journal that you use to plan your adventures in. Jot down descriptions and stats from the book and use the maps to create your own maps and flow charts that you can use at the table. When it's game time use your notes from your journal and keep this tome on the book shelf where it belongs.I honestly can't recommend this book enough.

Fantastic book!
It's a huge book for two, classic old D&D adventures (B1 INTO THE UNKOWN and B2 THE KEEP ON THE BORDERLANDS). That's because each of those great adventures has three versions included (yep, six printed adventures total). The first two are variations on the original printed book printed by TSR decades ago and a third which has been overhauled for the 5e rules of today's Dungeons and Dragons game (included some new supplemental encounters for each). Despite the repetitions, INTO THE BORDERLANDS is a great asset for gamers who want to visit this untamed, wilderness region. My hats off to Goodman Games for doing such a good job on this book.

Hardback looks fantastic. Love the idea of converting old modules to 5e. Goodman Games products seem to be of high quality and look great. Well packaged and timely shipping as well.

2 modules in one, but it is cumbersome
i bought my copy at a Local Game Store, but i want to give my review on it as i find these books to be, well, frankly bulky.at first i was one of those, "well if you don't like it being bulky then don't get it" person, but after running a campaign using Keep on the Borderlands as the starting adventure, i realized why in play, it's just annoying.to begin, the book is well made, good read through of interviews and seeing the original modules is nice. i didn't use B1, but it seems like an awesome dungeon crawl, one day i'll run it. B2 was a lot of fun. this is a 5e conversion, and it help take a lot of guess work out of it, and i also own a reprint and original copy of B2 module, and during play, i found i was using my Reprint and original copy more, than the bulky book. only time i used it is for the Caves of Chaos crawl, and that's it, and even then the original module gave me the information i needed.these adventure modules are great for new DMs who want to run classic adventures, and my group loved the adventure, and are currently going to do Isle of Dread next. with a little google fu, you are better off printing out what you need as a DM, because while half of it is useful, during play, it becomes troublesome. you can get the original module POD elsewhere, but overall, not really worth getting the book, unless you need it to be bulky so you don't lose the maganzine sized OG modules.B2 is a lot of fun, but the book, meh.

Great book for D&D collection!
This book is very informative on how first edition DND modules looked. The chapter on DM advice is actually really good for any first time dungeon master. The adventures presented and level of detail are an excellent introduction into how the game is played. Definitely recommend.

Wonderful Nostalgia + I Don't Get the Negativity
I played this exact D&D module as a teenager (not as DM but player) and it brings back wonderful memories. The fact that the module has been modernized and brought into 5th edition mechanics makes it all the better. That said, I do not understand many of the vitriolic comments here, invariably regarding (A) the inclusion of the original game modules, and (B) the resultant size of the book. Talk about first world problems! "The NERVE of this restaurant, giving me TOO much food! I had expected to walk away hungry for a burger!" Or "By God, this Lord of the Rings trilogy is killing countless of trees - even the trees in the story! - I wish they had just ripped out every other page so it would be a quicker read!"If you don't like the inclusion of the original materials, you can use the highly advanced algorithmic polynomial gaming technique of SKIPPING OVER THOSE CHAPTERS. Which by the way, is conveniently facilitated by the authors' thoughtful inclusion of a TABLE OF CONTENTS, which will hasten your navigation to the new and updated material like a Speed Charm.Meanwhile, for the rest of us, who would like to savor the original flavor of the game while simultaneously appreciating an update for the next generation of D&D players, I heartily welcome those extra pages.
