Great Illustrations
I wanted a book that would generate interest in Geography for my primary and pre-school children. I was not disappointed in purchasing this book. The illustrations are not only clear and colorful but also present geographical concepts like spreading seas and the water cycle at a glance (for parents to clarify). The book opens a new world for my kids who are fascinated by the colourful images of what the earth, oceanic & coastal regions, and various climatic zones look like. They often refer to the book on their own to pour over the pictures. The Dynamic Earth Section that covers volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis are particular useful to explain current natural disasters.

One page ruins it for younger kids
I viewed this book in a bookstore. I was going to purchase it for my child but one page with a photo of a mummified baby turned me off. Not appropriate for young or sensitive children. I will consider buying it when he is older. I do think you could remove the page without much impact on the book.

Wonderful in so many ways
This book has really captivated not just my wife and I, but also our 2 children (agwes 7 & 9). For kids it's a fascinating mine of information, aided by many great diagrams and spectacular photos to help educate curious minds. And adults too will enjoy either sharing it with them, or just casual reading by themselves.I had high hopes for a publication from National Geographic, and this has certainly lived up to these hopes. For anyone who has any degree of interest in the natural world, you'd have to go a very long way to find a better book than this one!
