Just Great Fun!
I've been a Sci-Fi buff most of my life. When Buck Rogers in the 25th Century was on the air during 1979-1980 (Season 1), I knew it didn't have the special effects of Star Wars or Close Encounters, nor did it have the story-writing of Star Trek or even the seriousness of Space 1999 or Battlestar Gallactica. But it never ceased to be a whole lot of fun to watch. As campy as it was much of the time, Buck Rogers always entertained. Buck and Wilma got themselves into some snarly situations, but watching how they would weasel and twist their way out was half the fun.Sure the episodes appeared low budget, even by the standards of the day, but the show had a quality of connecting with the audience that many of today's shows lack. It was very easy as a young man to look at Gil Gerard playing Buck as the guy to be. He was cool, calm, collected, and could womanize right up there with James T. Kirk.Although the first season had a few duds, most of the episodes had a good storyline and were interesting to watch. And the lineup of guest stars was a roster of successful actors and actresses that starred in many other TV shows and movies over the following decades. I'll have to admit it was more fun watching the shows back then, but it is nostalgic and entertaining to watch these shows again. I only purchased the Season One because I recall the Second Season as not being as good. Going to the spaceship format worked extremely well for Star Trek, but didn't work well for Buck Rogers. Wilma (Erin Gray) was reduced to a secondary character and the Admiral was too much of a goofball to be taken seriously. Thom Christopher as Hawk helped salvage the situation.

A fun show to watch
This show premiered in 1979 and at the time I was away at school and did not have a chance to watch it.I liked the show. It was fun to watch and the writing was generally very good. Our hero, Buck Rogers was often surrounded by beautiful women. In the opening episodes and in 3 others, Buck is surrounded by Pamela Hensley who plays Princess Ardala & Erin Gray who plays Colonel Wilma Deering throughout the series. The had special effects, action, intrigue, mysteries and romance, and there was a lot of comedy sprinkled throughout the season. Some of the women who played around Buck & the episodes in which the appeared are:Brianne Leary - Ryma (Planet of the Slave Girls)Karen Carlson - Stella Warden (Planet of the Slave Girls)Ana Alicia - Felina Redding (Vegas in Space)Juanin Clay - Major Marla Landers (Vegas in Space/A Blast for Buck)Pamela Susan Shoop - Tangie (Vegas in Space)Markie Post - Joella Cameron (The Plot to Kill a City)Nancy DeCarl - Sherese (The Plot to Kill a City)Jamie Lee Curtis - Jen Burton (Unchained Woman)Tara Buckman - Majel (Unchained Woman)Ann Dusenberry - Ariela Dyne (Planet of the Amazon Women)Melody Rogers - Lieutenant Dia Cyrton (Cosmic Whiz Kid)Trisha Noble - Sabrina (Cruise Ship to the Stars)Kimberly Beck - Alison Michaels (Cruise Ship to the Stars)Morgan Brttany - Raylyn Derren (Happy Birthday, Buck)Anne-Marie Martin - Stella Breed (Twiki Is Missing)Judith Chapman - Lara Teasian (Olympiad)Anne Lockhart - Jennifer (A Dream of Jennifer)Mary Woronov - Nola (A Dream of Jennifer)Cynthia Leake - Elane (Space Rockers)Judy Landers - Joanna (Space Rockers)Heidi Bohay - Maya (Buck’s Duel to the Death)Elizabeth Stack - Vionne (Buck’s Dual to the Death)Other stars (from the Batman TV show) included:Frank Gorshin - Seton KelloggCesar Romero - Amos ArmatJulie Newmar - ZarinaAnd other notable stars were:Peter Graves - Major Noah CooperRoddy McDowel - Governor SaroyanRay Walston - Roderick ZaleJerry Orbach - Lars MangrosAgain this was a very fun show to watch. A TV classic.
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife, and we both loved it. Buck Rogers season one is a classic. Sort of a sci-fi James Bond with action, humor, beautiful women, celebrity guest stars, (Markie Post, Gary Coleman, Jamie Lee Curtis, Frank Gorshin, and Jack Palance all guest star), and a tiny little robot! Also a lot of kicking. A Lot.This DVD features the original Buck Rogers theatrical film that was edited into the pilot episode as well!I highly recommend it!
