Excellent reliable switch
I own this switch along with an 8 port switch from the same Procurve 1800 series. It's a reliable switch, quiet (no fans running), and doesn't get hot. Used at home to expand the home network (network drives, home server and serves some wired outlets in the house (TV and office)). The switch's settings can be tweaked, but also works well 'out of the box' if you don't have much experience with setting up networks. Fairly reasonable in price, I would definitively recommend this switch to anyone.

Good entry-level enterprise product, solid performance
Used this to replace a Procurve 2824 which was running without a hitch for over 5 years. Replaced with 1810G-24 because we are switching the network cabling to Cat6 and need Gigabit performance. The Procurve pros:- Lifetime replacement warranty (for original owner) which on 5 devices in the past years we only had to use once and it was honored- Value for money- Solid firmwareCons with this model:- Plastic chassis (they used to be full metal)- Web management interface is cut down, you can't label ports and you can't see live status and throughput of individual ports in the web UI.'Being an entry level product and considering the warranty you get with this and the price point I am a happy customer indeed :)

Performs well, except after power failure
We have two of these. Both worked fine for us, except we had some ports that that didn't work properly for us, at some times, especially after a power failure. On one occasion, our server failed to establish network communications (4 gigabit ports, trunked) to the switch after a power failure. Before the power failure, exact same config, it was functioning fine. In fact, \, we found that even though network cables were all physically connected (as they were when the power went out - CAT6, 6 ft long), there were no lights on the ports indicating that they were connected. We had to physically disconnect, leave it for 30 seconds or so, then re-connect, and then we saw lights. Even so, no connections...ping to the server didn't answer. We had to remove the trunking on the four ports of the switch (in the web interface of the switch), and then it worked. We tried restoring the trunk, and lost connectivity, so reverted to no trunking. Our assessment was that this lack of connectivity was entirely within the network switch, not the server. A network switch should "just work" without intervention after a power failure. We've replaced that one with another smart switch - exactly same config, never a problem.Recently, we had similar problems with the other switch - not connecting to workstations, not connecting to the other smart switch after a power failure. We're now replacing the second switch.Other reviews have been solid, but we can't recommend these.

Excellent Value, Easy to Use
I have a long history of using HP switches at my employer, but this was my first for my home network. This model sure does give you be best bang for the buck. It has all the features that an IT administrator would look for (VLAN's, traffic shaping, port loop protection, etc) but with the simplicity of a web interface. The only thing I wish it had were port labels in the web interface to keep track of what is connected where.HP has always been great on the warranty- how many other switch vendors offer a lifetime warranty? One of the reasons I chose this model (besides the price) was the absence of a fan. Even though it is located in my basement, the fan noise of my previous switch was annoying. And, as a bonus, this model draws very little energy! This is a great switch for a home that is networked, and for a small office. Highly recomended.

good megabit switch
Good throughput, quiet switch. Plug and play, but also allows for advanced features, like connection aggregation. Good priceing, why buy a lesser unit

Good switch, although UI could be better
It may be that I am unfamiliar with HP switches, but setting up the VLAN and trunks actually required looking at the manual. The whole tag, untag, exclude thing seems like an odd way to do it. You would think all you need to do is define the VLAN, and check which ports you want in it. I kept locking myself out of the maintenance port! And having to use two paperclips to do a factory reset was another WTF moment, especially since I had to do it like 5 times. lol Explicitly setting the trunking mode also seemed unnecessary, but this switch has more flexibility than I need, which is good.I've set up Cisco and Netgear managed switches, and it was much more straight forward. But I will admit I haven't looked at a modern switch in years. Anyways, it works well once its set up. This switch has more features than I need, but that just means I will still be able to use it for years to come. Also, I ordered from LANSTREET, and they sent me the updated version (J9803A), as apparently the J9450A was EOL in 2012. Its also really quiet, which is nice since I'm using this in my home. Couldn't be happier with the product and the seller.

AWESOME Switch
Love these switches.. Very dependable and works great.. I would first out of the box update the firmware from HP website. Very easy to setup and use. These switch can handle a lot of traffic. If your network doesn't have a lot of network traffic but you still wan to be on Gigabyte I would check out HP 1410-24g series these switches don't have a web interface but still an awesome switch
