Handle is twist-lock
NOTE: the handle is of the "twist-lock" variety, so it stays where you put it and can be loosened to collapse or extend freely. From other comments it seems like folks have been confused about that and there's no mention of it in the packaging or on the product. Good value. Quality is good enough. Any net like this is going to be a bit delicate, you can't be swinging around a piece of cast iron to catch a moth, so don't sit on it :) Bigger than I thought. I use it to catch pantry moths, so a bit bigger than I strictly need but works great. The net is nice and deep so whatever you capture is less likely to escape once in the bottom of the net. Also the mesh is fine so captures even small moths, something that was a problem with the "child-sized" nets I tried first. Those were good enough for the job quality wise but pantry moths would just fly right out through the larger mesh. I would do it again, although for my personal purposes I'd probably look for something a little smaller.

I recommend it
The net is high quality and telescoping in length to give good reach while remaining packable. I wish it could collapse to be a little shorter but I will not complain. The net itself is plenty large to allow you to capture an insect without it being able to escape. The net is also a high quality mesh that prevents even medium sized insects from escaping through the holes.

Enjoyable to use but handle wearing out too soon
Lightweight, durable netting, worked well for my purpose (mostly catching bees for studying. Writing two years later, I deducted one star because the telescoping handle, which I rarely extend from its shortest length, seems to be wearing out; it slips to a more-extended position or, more problematically, allows the net frame to spin so I fail to trap the bee in the bottom of the net. I'll have to try to find a replacement handle.

VERY impressive!
I’m genuinely stunned with this butterfly net. I had no idea when I ordered it that it would be so impressive. I expected just a chintzy rolled metal shaft, and a flimsy net attached to a wire hoop. And that would’ve been just fine - we’re catching butterflies here, not wolverines. But the product I received definitely surpassed my expectations. The hoop folds on a hinge, making it compact and easily stowed in a bag. The handle threads into the hoop, securing the folding sections together. And the telescopic shaft is actually good quality, like a heavy-duty radio antenna. It feels very sturdy when extended; the telescopic sections slide smoothly up and down, with enough resistance so that it won’t accidentally collapse. And I didn’t expect it to be this long (TWSS)! I hadn’t intended to go a-huntin’ flutterbys right away, but was so impressed with the net, I felt compelled to head straight out to the garden. Sure enough, I immediately discovered a couple of pesky pieris rapae which have been destroying some of my plants. On the very first pass with my new net, I captured one of the pretty little bastages. I’m catching all of these fluttering little jerks, and setting out a nice mantis buffet.

Quality Product That's Easy to Assemble and Use
This is a very nice little net. I wasn't expecting much when I placed the order but ended up extremely pleased by this thing. I quickly ordered it because I noticed several butterflies and dragonflies stuck inside my parents' screened-in pool at their home. I had already seen dead butterfly inside the enclosure, and with nothing better to do during my vacation, I figured I'd play the role as pacifist by catching and freeing these guys. The net wasn't difficult at all to assemble. The round ring of the net was obviously separated in equal parts, so fitting them took seconds. The polearm of the net is a simple twist to loosen, extend, and tighten. I'm no expert in net quality, but the netting material itself seemed very sturdy and well-attached to the ring. Within minutes of assembling, I was able to catch three butterflies and one dragonfly with ease! Due to the net being light, the 5-ish foot extendibility, and the net opening being amply wide, it didn't take long to get the insects into the net. The length of the net also made it simple to turn the it so as to close off their only exit. Overall, this is a quality little nifty net that served its purpose perfectly. I gave it to my parents in hopes that they, too, will continue catching and freeing these helpless creatures. I won't hold my breath though lol.

Quality issue
As soon as I went to put the net on it ripped. The net frame itself is of quality, but the netting leaves little to be desired. I used it for a costume on Halloween so it served its purpose, but if using for legit purposes idk if this is the one you’d want to get.
