Good information for starters!
Accurate book but, the only way you are going to learn about mental health is through living it. Through trial and error. No book Is going to give you the answers. You’ve just got to stick with treatment. find stability in your medications and coping skills. And if therapy works for you then all the more power to you. Use it. If you’re just now getting diagnosed maybe this book would be nice to flip through to learn more but that’s all it’s good for.

I bought the latest 3rd addition copy to check on for any new wisdom gems plus to be able to pass on my learnings to others who are suffering.

Must Read
Books covers a lot of information on people affected with Bi-Polar, also helpful for others that have both friends and relatives with bi-polar to understand how this affects everyone

Helpful for bipolar patients that are lost
A good book for bipolar family and self help. I later found that I am more knowledgeable than the descriptions in the book. Somewhat like the bipolar community hasn't explained their condition very well. FYI nobody can probably treat you if you don't correct them when they are wrong. You have to remember that the illness has to become understood better by the bipolar patients themselves.

Highly Recommend
I wish they issued a copy of this to everyone when they get diagnosed, it would save so much time and trouble. This book is thorough and easy to read while including important things I've not found outside medical journals. Includes useful medication information beyond the scope of average doctor appointments, what it looks like in women and children, sample charts and contracts to use, and real life examples that help you navigate and understand similar situations written with a depth of personal understanding and compassion that is truly meaningful to anyone suffering from this illness. This book answers questions you needed the answers to but didn't even know to ask. It's an absorbing read if you want to understand more about the why's and how's of every aspect of treatment and a useful resource if you want to look up things as needed. I recommend it to anyone trying to gain more control over their own illness or explain it to others and anyone else affected by bipolar, including practitioners. It's the kind of book you're going to want to give a copy of to your doctor, or bring along so you can point to a page and say "This!".

Comprehensive and easy to understand
This is an excellent book. The new edition comes out in September but the 2013 version I purchased is right on the money with the information it contains. I highly recommend it! Four colleagues and family members have also purchased it with my recommendation. It's available in paper or audible.
