## Description

From the Manufacturer Wire-In Phase Coupler. Fits a standard electrical junction box. Boosts powerline signals by providing a bridge between the two, 120 VAC electrical phases (A and B) in a split-phase, 240 VAC home. Without a phase coupler, signals travel out to the street transformer on one phase and comeback in the home on the other phase; usually at a lower (attenuated) level. In homes up to 2000 Sq. Ft. and within 100 feet of the transformer, phase coupling may not be needed. As the size of the home and distance from the transformer increases, phase coupling becomes more important. A phase coupler is recommended in every main breaker panel and sub-panel to ensure maximum signal strength. The wire-in phase coupler is good for UPB, X10 and other higher frequency powerline signals. Simply Automated is an industry leader in home automation and lighting control. We provide an optimum solution for your home lighting automation needs -- most complete product line in the industry, powerful UPB powerline technology and low price. Simply Automated products utilize Universal Powerline Bus (UPB) technology. Our products work over the pre-existing electrical wiring in your home. No new wires needed! Powerful expansion capability -- up to 250 devices using UPStart software and your PC and Computer Interface Module (PN: UMC-USB). Add additional single rocker dimmers, deluxe dimmers with different faceplates (up to 8 buttons), lamp or appliance modules, tabletop pedestal with 8 buttons, wall receptacle, fixture relay, fixture dimmer or scheduler-timer. Lighting control for your entire home. To ensure a proper installation in your home: - Your home should be no more than 2500 square feet and have only one breaker panel. A phase coupler is required in some home installations. - Not intended for use in multi-dwelling (condo, apartment, duplex) units.

Review: Just what I needed - Works for my network and balance the phases so I have equal signal distribution
Review: Doesn't work in condo, probably works fine for house. - Disclaimer-I returned this because I couldn't get this to work. When I purchased, there wasn't much documented about this not working in condo buildings. Even though I placed this within 8 feet of a breaker, I couldn't get it to work. Finally, after speaking with support, it was determined that this doesn't work in condos.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this work with Insteon?**
A: Because most Insteon devices use 2 communication paths, this device is largely unnecessary. The command is not only sent over the powerline, but also over a wireless link between devices. I have found that this redundancy makes Insteon systems considerably more reliable than any of the others out there. It also makes many of the modules more expensive. I have some devices that are way too far away to be reached by a wireless signal, but the commands get there just fine over the powerline.

There are other modules, where transformers or other impediments prevent the powerline control signal from reaching a given module. In this case the wireless command activates the commands. The fact that Insteon communicate in both directions, makes it possible to inform the controller when a signal has not been received or the command carried out by the receiving module. On some modules, if there is no load connected to it, it will send back a failure signal to the controller even though the control signal was received correctly by the module. This two-way capability also greatly improves the control reliability.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Doesn't work in condo, probably works fine for house.
*by S***H on March 1, 2018*

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good high-frequency signal coupler
*by A***F on March 4, 2015*

It appears to work as advertised. I installed it in side the main building distribution panel initially, but moved it to a box immediately outside thereof, so I could see the indicator lights.
