It also leaks where the lever piston comes out of the top. A few drips I wouldn't care about, but this made a mess.I bought it as a backup to my home sump pump in case of power failure. In this case, I'd probably have less spilled water if I'd used a bucket.Poor seals on a cheap plastic device. I have a geothermal heating system and where the condensate water comes out I buried a 5 gal pail in the ground which we use in the summer to water flowers. We are both in our 60's and bending is a little more of a task. This way we just flip the lid off the pail, insert the hand pump and it rapidly sucks up the water plus sediment into the watering can. It works very well and I am very please with it.
