It makes for wielding one-handed a bit tricky but the reason for the extra weight is that "blade" is quite bulky. It makes it far more heavier than an actual sword but also sturdy as a blunt trainer. If you wanted to get more nimbleness with this sword you could easily sand or grind down the blade a bit.The only complaint is the pommel is far too uncomfortable and sharp to hold with the off-hand for leverage. (Since holding with both hands on the guard doesn't really give enough because of the blade weight)This can also be solved by shaving down and rounding off the corners with sandpaper/grinder/file, or alteratively capping the pommel off with a heavy smooth metal or wood. **Q: What is the rubber gasket for? Where does it go?** A: That rubber gasket slips down the entire blade after the hand gaurd, and keeps the hand guard from slipping off. It requires some force to fit the rubber over and down the blade. One could use dish soap and water to help slip the rubber down completely, then just wash off the soap and water and let dry out. **Q: is this cold steel?** A: Cold Steel is also the company name it is however extremly durable and if you break it.
