This book came in perfect condition! The German is really good. I am in my third year of German, and I can understand the basics of German. I bought this book to enhance my vocabulary, and reading skills in German. It has great vocabulary, and once you understand them it is an easy read. I totally recommend this book. If you are more of a beginner German speaker it is more difficult to understand so be prepared to have to use a German to English dictionary. For people who have been in German for a long time, and know past tenses this book is perfect. Either way it is a great book, and I totally recommend it.

I have always wanted to be able to read in another Language and I love the HP books in English. This book combines the Great HP story with German making it a fun way to learn another language and to read HP. I would recommend getting the HP books in German or any other language you are interested in and learn to read in that language in this manner.I do suggest that you dont cheat and use the English HP books as a guide because the sentence structure in German will then be very confusing. Grab the HP German Book, A good German Dictionary and have fun. :)

I am learning German and bought this on a whim. I like it. It seems to be a good contemporary idiomatic translation of Rowling's text. For my purposes, the emphasis is on idiomatic and so I find it necessary to have Rowling's original at hand.On further consideraton, perhaps I should have used the word "register" rather than "idiomatic." All languages have registers and as a native English speaker my own translations from German to English always seem to have a poetic and archaic register. Klaus Fritz's translation of J.K. Rowling is a very good translation of the original and everybody seems to agree the register rings true to contemporary native German speakers. There is really no higher praise for any translation.

If you are a native English speaker trying to hone your German reading skills, this is worth consideration. I had previously read this story in English and Spanish and had seen excerpts from the French translation. As German is my third language, it has taken some time to become familiar with all of the vocabulary, but given a basic understanding of the sentence structure and having read this story more than once in English, I found this a good exercise. This was greatly facilitated by the fact that this translation is very close to the original English--probably the closest of the translations I've seen. The book itself is also physically well-constructed (sturdy spine, intact pages, etc), unlike some comments I have read about other editions. This would make a good addition to a German teacher's library or to any multi-lingual child's collection.

This was a Christmas gift for one of my best friends, who lives out of town, so it had to be shipped. She's trying to learn German and this is very helpful! She wanted a challenge, to try and translate Harry Potter from German to English.

Several years ago I lived in Switzerland where I learned to speak German. Since then, I have lost some of my ability to speak German, so I bought this book hoping it would be at an 'easy' read. It took a few pages to get into the right mindset to read in German, but now I am reading it a lot easier. I occasionally use my English version to help me understand the meanings of some words better. If I am understanding the words right, this German translation does capture much of the same feeling and mystery that is in the English version.

Great resource on the ebook for learning German as a foreign language. My skills are at a high B1 and the notes function to look up words coupled with the fact the story is pretty common in culture made this really helpful.
