I think the turmeric is more for color than taste. I have used both types and have even combined the 2 and didn't notice a change in taste. I am still experiencing with how to make it and what I season it with because I only recently discovered the pearl form through Hellofresh and different recipes tell you different ways of cooking it. Definitely needs some seasoning and some butter or a lite sauce. **Q: Is this whole wheat?** A: The ingredient list only states wheat so it probably isn't whole wheat. If you can make quick rice, you can cook this. Sometimes I prepare it with only a little salt because I am going to serve it with a flavorful main dish like Moroccan Pork Ragu served over the couscous. Sometimes I add herbs, spices and sliced scallions or garlic as a side dish. It can be added to soups and casseroles. This couscous is also great cold in a salad (rather than pasta) with Za'atar spice blend dressing and raw veggies. The more you use it, the more ideas you will have.
