Dynamic mics are designed for sound isolation (which is why they are ideal live). For that reason they do not pick up much if any background noise. If you are more than a few feet from the mic. you will be faint. 20 feet away probably inaudible. Less than a foot away will be fine. These mics are very tough you can sing or play right into them and they will not damage. They can be used up close to a guitar amp or kick drum and vocalists and horn players can sing right into them for a proximity effect.
