Q: can this unit be mounted on a wall?

I see no mounting holes for screws on the unit. The plastic case of the unit does not look thick enough to handle much weight. I would say no to mounting the unit directly to the wall by taking it apart and drilling screw holes through the back of the case. Option - mount a very sturdy shelf to the wall, and set the unit on top of this shelf.

Q: Where does the water go once it filters into the plastic tubing?

The hose has to be run into a drain or outside. If it is plugged into the tank the dehumidifier will not turn off and keep dripping water from the hose. The dehumidifier can be setup two ways. The water can stay in the tank, it will shutoff when full and then you manually empty the tank. The dehumidifier can also be setup to run continuous. The plug is removed from the tank and the hose plugged in.
