Great Gift for New Florida Gardeners
As an avid NE gardener, I got this book 10 yrs ago when we moved to SW Florida. It’s been a great addition to my gardening library; a wonderful reference for Florida gardeners, seasoned and new alike. As we’ve gotten older and welcomed good old friends from upstate NY, MA and elsewhere to Florida, those who have and will continue to commit to gardening here, this book is always among our Welcome and Housewarming gifts. Everything related to gardening here is a whole different ballgame here vs northern climates … challenging, often very frustrating … but always rewarding, once one becomes educated and doesn’t give up.I can’t find new copies of this book often, and so I ordered this one used in “Good” condition, and it arrived looking as good as new - THANK YOU Seller!

Worth having but only a partial resource
This is a beautifully produced, clearly written guide to Florida gardening. It covers many subjects and plant categories in a straightforward way. I do wish, however, that it were more comprehensive. I understand that no book could cover every last plant variety available, but perhaps the authors could have been slightly more selective. For instance, we get information on geraniums and pansies and violets, which grow almost everywhere, but the more exotic plants that Florida gardeners will want to know about and are probably unfamiliar with (as I am), don't even get a mention. I have just this past week bought Tibouchina, Blue Dewdrop Duranta, and dwarf Powder Puff, none of which are in the book. Also, the Rose & Shrub section in my opinion slights the roses: I would have liked more information about types and ideal growing conditions (for instance, there is no mention that roses may thrive in bright morning light but need shade in the hotter afternoon). Growing roses in the subtropics is not quite the same as growing them in England. I have heard that the 'Knockout' variety is good for Florida, and would have liked to learn what it is and why this is so. But it's not mentioned, along with lots of other flowers and shrubs I continue to buy and don't find anywhere in the book (either under their Latin or their common names). My last criticism is that there is no information about propagation of each species, and real gardeners do like to propagate. The best means of doing so varies according to the plant (cuttings, grafting or layering, or growing from seed).Overall, a helpful and attractive reference but certainly not the last word on Florida gardening.

Outstanding- 1 of the 2 best Florida Gardening Books
Outstanding comprehensive reference book. Clarifies the importance of determining your micro-gardening zone in Florida, and then all information in the book is clearly keyed for the different micro-zones. Organized into types of plants (11 groups) for clear useful advice, such as Perennials, Lawns, Citrus, Trees & Palms, Herbs & Vegetables, Annuals, etc. Numerous color photos of various cultivars. Lots of useful charts. Easily one of the 2 best books on Florida gardening.

Best gardening book
Been wanting this gardening book for ages, finally snagged it on sale. I am in love! I can never remember the name of plants I want but always know what they look like. So every spring I end up at lowes walking around going is it that one? This book helps save me all that trouble of not knowing which one to get. I love how big the book is, but its light enough to tote around. Most of the plants have photos as well as simple idiot free key to show what they need and where the best place is to plant them based on your zone. This book is perfect if you interested in gardening and landscaping your yard and are tired of trying to google the one that has purple flowers that gets only this big.
