The assistive cover is very effective at blocking out the book cover from the image, which does help the algorithm on the edge detection. I would recommend thinking through the lighting of where you place the scanner though, where I currently have it I get unwanted shadows that do mess with things, but that part is my fault :) Review: Assistive cover does not work like the ad says it does.
