I read it was dishwasher safe to so I took off the top piece and put it on the top rack of my dishwasher and it warped it. Everything else seems fine when washed. I just wanted to thoroughly clean the turntable after the frosting got dried on it. :/ **Q: Is the turntable noisy when you rotate it?** A: This turntable is quiet! Not noisy at all. **Q: Is this bpa free?** A: I don't really know, but it's a moot point. The cake will not touch the plastic. You will use cardboard or parchment paper. **Q: Does it have a brake to lock it in place?** A: No it does not. It is very basic. I'm new to baking and didn't want to invest all this money in a metal cake stand/spinner. So this for the bill. It spins easily without the cake so with the weight of the cake I'd say half as fast which is still pretty fast. Came with some supplies to decorate and experiment with and a couple of paddle knives as well. Keep expectations realistic. For the price point one can't expect commercial items or tools, but one doesn't need all that to make a nice cake for the table, for children or someone's birthday.
