They are gimmicks or will ruin your stuff. Stain removal is a chemistry problem and each different class of stain requires different chemistry. That is why Carbona has so many different form factors and formulas. I've been using these for years and they are the undisputed champs. I keep the Food Combo set in my kitchen utility drawer to have on hand for immediate treatment. The way they remove oil, coffee, ketchup is amazing and it will literally make blood DISAPPEAR! (though I don't know about it forensically, so nefarious purchasers, YMMV :P) - but visually its incredible.
