I had my misigivings about the lacing systems being these sitched fabric hooks, but, so far, the boots seem to be holding up well. Fitment: As someone who struggles with footwear due to the shape and wideness of my feet, these boots are a solid win in my book. I was able to order them in my actual size, without having to go up. One minor issue: The model for these boots was likely a wide foot with a higher arch. I did find them to be a little too spacious, as I have lower arches, but, I solved this problem with some cheap Dr. Scholl's inserts. What (minor) slippage I had was resolved. Weight: They don't weigh anything. Lacing: The laces seem to be good quality - a little long, however. Traction: No issues what so ever on the trail. I am confident when walking over smooth or wet rocks. Cushion: I have some bone spurs on my heels and these boots provided adequate cushioning on their own so I don't have any serious issues there. Waterproofing: I don't expect any lowcut to be waterproof beyond light rain. They dry very quickly if you're wearing the appropriate socks. Overall: These are really solid boots. It was a total of 18 miles(5,800 ft of elevation gain) that I did this day on these boots that were brand new and not broken in yet. Even tho they were not broken in they did a great job and were not uncomfortable or painful. Conditions were cold but mostly dry. It had rained maybe 4 days prior and there was no water that got into the boot or my socks. My feet were warm and dry through out the day. The slip resistance is really good even with mud. I will say that the only thing you should know about these before buying them is that they run a bit bigger than they say. I bought a size 10 initially but a 9.5 fit me better. Keep that in mind if you are going to be ordering these. Thanks!!** A: I wouldn't expect a problem. I have an original set of Moabs that have the same loops. I've probably walked 500-600 miles in these boots. I've worn out the soles and I've worn 3 holes in the sides just above the soles, but the loops for the laces are going strong. I just tossed the old Moabs and replaced them with a pair of Moab 3. **Q: Do the moab 3 hiking boot and moab 3 hiking shoe vary in size?** A: I tried on the waterproof shoe and they felt smaller. I was told the size is measured before the waterproof insert is added. So I would say if you have regular Moab 3 mid hiking then if you are getting Moab 3 shoe make sure it is regular and not waterproof for the same fit. **Q: Do these have good drainage. They're not waterproof, but are they water holding? I need boots that will drain for a week-long canoing trip.** A: Drain well. But if submerged it takes a bit. Great hiking boot. Merrell's will last much longer then the average set of hiking shoes and will be not cause pain during long hikes.
