This allows the drill body to be lifted higher and so allows an ordinary 3 jaw chuck to be useed. Mine came with this chuck but you can buy them separately. It must have the same sized arbour as end mill cutters. Mine is a normal 13mm chuck which will close to about 2mm. But with a set of inserts could be adapted to fractional sizes. I use this chuck for all holes from 13mm down. Actually i have a 14mm with a reduced shank. above that I use end mill cutters in this drill. **Q: Will the magnet attach to a girder that has a 2cm layer of plaster covering it?** A: I have never tried that idea before, I feel it will as a magnet will magnetise across many surfaces and materials except certain alloys or ceramics. The only problem I feel that it may well crush to powder a 2CM Layer of plaster or do a lot of damage to the plasterwork because of the grip forces applied once the electricity is switched on and the Girder is steel metal product. If it is attached vertically or horizontally please also use the safety strap around the Girder as if the power switches off accidently, serious injury could occur to the operator at all times **Q: Thinking of this for drilling wood stock with a steel plate beneath for magnetic holding. what depth will the magnet work to?** A: the minimum thickness of the plate is 10 mm. The magnetic surface of the drill must be fixed in a steel plate. **Q: How much travel has the unit got up and down** A: Hello, On just the slide you will get 6 inches of travel but if you extend the head as well as maximum slide you can get up to 13 inches of travel.
