I was surprised that it worked really well on a variety plants including grasses and woody vines even some saplings. The length gives you excellent reach and tip speed so you can really hack and get things really low but the 1055 steel does not hold an edge well and I find myself sharpening it every time I go through a patch of woody vines. For the price it does a pretty good job but if you have lots of cutting to do I would opt for something more substantial but for backpacking it is nearly ideal. I'm not a tall guy (5'10") and even with my long arms i had to bend more than my old back prefers. All in all for the money a great addition to our garden equipment. Thanks ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect cheap yard machete *by W***B on August 30, 2016* This is a great tool for removing unwanted vegetation but does not replace a gas or electric weed whacker. Great for light trail making or maintence it really excels at clearing vegetation for a camp site. My wife loves using this around the yard, it's light and does not tire you out during big jobs. Works great on grass but handles larger vines and sticks with ease. Does not replace a weed whacker because it can't get close enough to things like rocks without hitting them and dulling the edge. Holds a great edge when I do hit rocks, chisel grind edge is easy to touch up when dull.
