I have used K9 Advantix II and Frontline Plus topical in the past. I am just getting my dogs started on this as we just moved from AK (where you don't have to do flea & tick tx or heartworm pills). My vet had given me a dose of the combination pill that has the heartworm and flea and tick in it to cover us for the month of travel to get to the East Coast. That was the first time my dogs have had an oral Flea & Tick and I found a few ticks crawling on them throughout or trip after hikes. The ticks didn't seemed to have bitten them, but were crawling on them or ended up on me. It seemed the pill kept the ticks from biting but didn't repel them like the topical does.
