Bahco SHARPINS Insulation Saw Sharpener, Black

My brand new bacho insulation saw started to dull after cutting just three batts.Ordered one of these and use it after cutting each batt. Works an absolute treat.

If you've spent any time cutting down slabs of rockwool to fit with an insulation saw, you'll know it doesn't take too long before it's no longer cutting efficiently. I used to be very much in the "use a big knife" camp, but I've found the dedicated saw really does cut down on dust and makes much cleaner cuts, so I'm a convert.It's true that this sharpener is half again the price of the saw, but the angle of the grinding is custom-made to fit so you don't spoil the edge geometry, and I personally find it very worth the money: a few passes with this sharpener and the saw is as good as new. I've gone through at least 80 slabs of rockwool with the  Bahco PC-22-INS 22-inch Insulation Saw , and kept the saw blade nice and sharp the whole time using this tool little and often. I've knocked a star off for the price, which despite all of the above is a little high, but I still thoroughly recommend the purchase. As it's specifically designed to be held to run down the length of a saw blade, it's worth it for ease of use if you're planning a big job.

As a safe sharpener, this works well once - and only once - you take it apart and put a bit of packing in to ensure the sharpening edges contact the blade of the saw. Without that, you puzzle over why it's so hard to sharpen effectively. So it's very good, but it shouldn't be in need of the modding to make it work properly.

I purchased this along with the Bahco Insulation Saw it is custom made to support Bahco ProfCut Insulation Saw with New Waved Toothing 550mm (22 in) BAHPC22INS Keeping the saw sharp (which has a knife type blade rather than saw teeth) is vital to keep a good clean cut in rigid insulation boards. This handy little sharpener does this with ease. The handle is shaped so that whilst you pull the sharpener along the blade - which is all you have to do to sharpen it - your hand is protected from coming into contact with the blade.So why only 3 stars for a simple, effective and matched tool? This just comes down to price - there are many good brand name knife sharpeners available for only £3 or so on here. Whilst the handle design is a nice addition, the actual sharpener is no different to these standard ones and £10 on top of the cost of these for the benefit of a simple piece of plastic is just too much. Whether you think this is necessary as an additional safety measure will be a matter of personal preference, but I suspect most people will be able to use a standard sharpener without undue risk.

Brilliant bit of kit and a must have for anyone who owns a Bahco insulation saw. Far cheaper to buy one of these than to replace your saws.
