I've been to the ER twice in recent years because of impacted stools. One of these at each meal definitely helps keep my stool soft enough to pass. They're quite small, so they should be easy to swallow, but they keep getting caught in my throat and then I cough them back up - I guess they're so small the water can pass by them instead of pushing them down. I solve that problem by taking each one with a larger gelcap, and by taking them first, not after I've finished eating. I prefer the 1000-count bottle, also by Gericare, for the economy and so I don't have to buy them so often. I have a regular prescription-type pill bottle I fill from the Gericare bottle; that makes the pills easy to dispense and minimizes exposure of the rest of the pills to the air (although, of all the gelcaps I take, this one is the least apt to get sticky in humid weather).
