## Description

THE SONGS NEIL YOUNG DIDN T WRITE 16 STUNNING COVER VERSIONS While Neil Young remains, arguably, the finest composer of the singer-songwriter generation, he has never been shy in revealing the musicians and songwriters from whom he took most inspiration and by whom he was most reliably informed. It s no secret therefore that Young has always remained a huge Bob Dylan fan, and while, like Bob, Neil performs most readily his own music, when he does choose a cover to perform, there s a good chance it will be one of Dylan s. Likewise, he remains greatly inspired still by his folk-club beginnings on the Canadian folk scene, and thus his favourite tune from those days Four Strong Winds by Ian & Sylvia remains another popular choice to play on occasion. Young is however equally spontaneous and changes his genre of choice with regularity, exploring country music one year, rockabilly another and R&B the next with a dose of computer generated sonic experimentation thrown in for good measure. Thus we have heard versions of Otis Redding s (Sittin On) The Dock Of The Bay , Elvis That s All Right Mama and Don Gibson s Oh Lonesome Me , all rubbing shoulders with Young originals at one time or another during the great man s live career. This CD collects together 16 startlingly original non-originals performed by Neil Young, taken from various FM broadcasts of live concerts recorded between 1970 and 1993

    That's Alright Mama

A mixed bag sound quality wise as befits a grey market release, Leftfield media have to the best of my knowledge so far only released whole radio shows, so this marks a departure of sorts with songs culled from performances dating back to 1970 with Crazy Horse up to 1993 with Booker T and the MG's.As has been said by the earlier reviewer 'Oh lonesome me' is pretty dire indeed, though not entirely representative of the sound quality of this in general the good is good though and on the whole most of the performances are good and 'innerestin'.The 1993 stuff with Booker T being pretty good 'All along the watchtower' and 'Dock of the bay', there are some interesting collaborations as well Bruce Springsteen (Bruce's 'Hungary Heart')and the Grateful Dead (Dylan's 'Forever Young').Nice CD but not essential unless you are a Neil fanatic who has to have everything certainly not the lace to start with Neil Young.

Review of Neil Young - Under the Covers.

Ye, saw this new Cd from Neil was being released and being a follower of his for many years got the first line of 'do you want to dance' stuck in my head. The album didn't seem to get too much advance PR. Couldn't make up my mind whether to buy it or not ; so quickly downloaded before I changed my mind, and got it instantly. style of the album is more 60s than 70s, but just love some of the tracks. Dylan one especially. Ye would recommend it to you all, cos musicianship is class and his voice can still make me cry.

Good track list, very poor sound quality

I was really quite looking forward to this release - an obvious bootleg, but a few live tracks that are otherwise unavailable. Unfortunately, for the most part the sound quality is really bad ... even for a bootleg. Beggar's Day and Lonesome Me are almost unlistenable. There are some redeeming features, On Broadway in particular is a nice live version, but would highly recommend using YouTube and the previews to decide which are worth getting at 99p for a download rather than £9 for the lot.
