When I weighted them they held, but it sounded like the Velcro was slowly coming undone and I didn't feel very safe-- especially after reading about mishaps experienced by other buyers.I ended up suspending them from a stair using a couple of retired climbing slings and carabiners. This feels much more secure and gives me the ability to use them for a different exercise. I actually bought these to work on grip strength, not pullups, so I "palm" each ball from the bottom rather than gripping it near the hanger at the top. I'm not strong enough to support my body weight with this grip yet, so I detached one ball and do reps with a separate resistance machine for now. The carabiners make it easy to switch things around.For my hands and this exercise the 3.5" balls are the perfect size. I wear a size medium glove. Both balls seem spherical.I'm happy with my purchase and would buy these again, but I removed one star for the straps and because the balls had a slightly strange smell when I opened the package. I and a friend have been using them for ninja warrior type work outs and they are top notch for the price. I have an expensive Atomic holds bannana grip and these grips are good in comparison.The straps are the only problem. If you are just going to hang these and do pull ups, they work just fine. However, if you are putting them up and taking them down often or you are swinging/releasing and catching hold of these in the air, sometimes the velcro comes loose. Both I (190 pounds) and friend (150 pounds) have ended up pulling one off these off the bar (even after having tested the velcro set up to make sure it was tight. You can easily buy a strap with D rings and a clip that holds hundreds of pounds, and your in business.The hold is fantastic and the velcro strap is good, but not for my intended purpose.
