## Description

Live album by the Irish blues rock musician, featuring performances recorded during Gallagher's Irish Tour in January 1974. The source concerts were recorded at Belfast Ulster Hall, Dublin Carlton Cinema and Cork City Hall using Ronnie Lane's Mobile Studio.

Review: Proper music from a proper musician - Wow!... Rory was certainly in blistering form during these live performances. No matter what or where Rory plays, he draws on every joule of energy in his body and converts it into a myriad of tones and emotions through his guitar. My favourite tracks are "A million miles away" and "walk on hot coals". Both tracks constitute one of the best back-to-back live performances in Rock history. Rory demonstrates how can can play addictive, grainy riffs in "Cradle Rock" and then switch to delicate solos, oozing with feeling such as that in "A million miles away". Even now, 36 years after this record was made, aspiring young guitarists accross the world strive to recreate the sounds and mastery of guitar achieved by Rory through a life of dedication to his craft. Compare the longevity and greatness of this music with all the forgetful number 1 hits which plague the charts today. Music should be played because it sounds great, not because some mind numbing talent show told you to play it! If you are new to Rory's music and would like to check him out, this a fantastic place to start.
Review: The Irish equivalent of Jimi Hendrix was on fire on this recording! - Rarely is an artist or band's live album regarded as their magnum opus. The Allman Brothers' 'Live at Fillmore East,' is the one obvious example, others would consider Thin Lizzy's 'Live and Dangerous,' or AC/DC's 'If You Want Blood' to be up there with those bands' best, but the occasions are fleeting. This would seem an absurd suggestion in today's musical climate, but in the 70's, live albums were as valid as their studio peers. 'Irish Tour '74' towers above the rest of Rory Gallagher's discography, not that the studio albums are bad, it's just this one is so universally acclaimed and praise! Clocking in at just under 70 minutes and 10 songs, it is a relatively large chunk of music. There is of course, a lot of improv over the 'blues standard' type tracks, and it does go on sometimes, but it's exactly why you should buy this album! NOTE : Any guitarist who wants to feel bad about himself should also watch the DVD - which is not included with this particular purchase.
