It was relatively easy to assemble. My husband helped. Definitely two person job. Appears very sturdy and the LED light strip is a hoot. My grandson loves it, especially the remote that he can employ independently. I purchased a Zinus 5" mattress to go with it. I like this model because it has a 15" safety rail instead of the usual 12" I saw on other beds. The ladder as part of the shelf system was no problem for a four year old. A younger, smaller child may have difficulty climbing up the ladder. The drawers are fabric like you would find in any foldable storage bin. Take care when you insert the bin holders- the hangers need to be reversed so the bins will slide in from the outside. My grandson gave the low loft bed a five star rating!
