It is mainly for aspirin, which tends to disassociate over time- but even years later, it is still about 90% effective. The only reason you find these so-called expiration dates, is that the manufacturer cannot guarantee that it will be 100% effective after a certain date; but we all know the veracity of manufacturer's claims, don't we? PS- I have a 4yr engineering degree, majoring in chemical engineering. While this is not the same as pharmacology, I have analyzed, synthesized and evaluated literally hundreds of such compounds- and know acetylsalicylic acid and other analgesics, quite well. PPS- I have been a migraine sufferer for over fifty years- but seldom use only OTC products- they are so watered down, primarily because people tend to overuse them- that they are not worth too much.
