Very pleased, great shots and good (very useful) zoom range. Feels good, looks good, constant aperature (F4 is fast enough these days)A very welcome addition to my lens collection: Canon 24-70 L F2.8, Canon 70-200 L F4, Canon 50 F1.4, Canon 100 F2.I'm not the kind of person who does detailed test shots at every aperature / focal length, etc but I am critical about the results andI like what I've seen.

Good, but not as crisp as the Tokina 12-24 at the wide end
This is a pretty nice lens. It is built like a tank and has a quality feel to it. The auto-focusing motor is not as quiet as they claim, and sometimes makes a clakking noise that sounds odd. The Tokina 12-24 is a much quieter and smoother operating lens.At the wide end (12mm), the image quality is good, but not as sharp out near the edges as the Tokina 12-24. At the other end of the range (28mm), the image quality is crisper across the frame, and seems somewhat better than the 12-24 at 24mm. The AR coatings are better on this lens than the Tokina 12-24 too, with greatly reduced lens flare when a bright light source is in the frame. My complaint about this lens, and the reason I am returning it (twice) is that it does not auto-focus properly with my Canon T2i. It auto-focuses correctly only about 20% of the time; the rest of the time it is off slightly, but noticeably. (Focusing manually, with Live View, produces a sharp image.) Other lenses I have tried on my camera DO auto-focus reliably: the Canon 18-55 kit lens, Canon 55-250mm, Tokina 12-24mm, and the Canon 10-22mm. But not the Tokina 12-28. I can not figure out why this is, but I have tested it extensively and I can not get it to auto-focus reliably. I returned the first one and got a replacement, and the second one acts the same way. Maybe you will have better luck on your camera. I hope so, because this is an otherwise nice lens.

Five stars for Tokina!!
Solid, built like a tank! Very sharp, great color contrast. My second Tokina lens and I would not trade either for anything else. Hoping to get the new Tokina 28-70, F2.8, in the future. I have used the Tokina 12-24, F4, on three trips to Europe. Taken over 10,000 pics with that lens. Amazing the detail the lens captures even in low light environments.

Quality lense
I'm an amature Photographer and have all Canon equipment. I was looking for a lense with a wider range and possible with a little zoom qualities. I read an artical in Popular Photography about this Tonkina 12-28 and the review was quite good. I gave it a try and am very happy with the lense. To my suprise it came with the tulip shade and it is a good one.

Fantastic lens!
It's very sharp, auto focus is fast, the switch to manual focus is a breeze. It's amazing. This lens is definitely worth the price.

Five Stars
Nice lens for my APS-C Canon camera, so far it has performed admirably at a reasonable price.

but when i saw this lens on sale for a really really good price, i nabbed one up
I already have the canon 10-18mm, but when i saw this lens on sale for a really really good price, i nabbed one up. Tokina is perhaps known for their low cost, ultra wide range of lenses.Build qualityA tank as usual, tokina doesn't skimp on constructionFocusingThis is where tokina has remained a bit old school, no ultrasonic, just a regular somewhat clunky sounding gear drive. The good thing about this is true tactile manual focusing with hard stops at the ends. AF is reasonably fast in various lighting conditions.Distortions & aberrationsPleasantly minimal and on par with other good performers in this category range. The wide end has a fairly nice curve distortion which is easily correctable. I didn't notice any significant chromatic aberrations.SharpnessWide open looks fairly tacky, with corner and edges looking pretty nice overall. Stopped down by 1 stop things improve nicely.Missing?Ultrawide lenses typically get neglected in the stabilization department. Some feel it's unnecessary, but seeing as video is just as common as photos with these lenses, stabilization is great to have. The lack of it may not be a detriment depending on your uses, and more and more cameras as coming out with sensor based stabilization.OverallIt's still a hard pick over competitors, such as tokina's renowned 11-16/11-20 2.8. The extra reach on the long end does make this lens more versatile as it brings it to a fairly normal focal range, But a stop slower will hurt those with weak iso cameras. Canon's 10-18 is fantastic, but is slower on the long end, but it has IS, and is super small and lightweight, great for handheld/gimbal/stabilizer work.Choose based on your needs and budget, as always!
