Superb product for those new to fly fishing. I put the question here about how to open the forceps. The response to pull them apart slightly offset worked a treat. Holding the forceps with the thumbguard on the right - pull the thumbguard part towards you as you pull them apart. It might help to push the foreceps firmly together before pulling them apart. Once they are apart it is not necessary to engage the lock in order to grasp a hook in the jaws - ie. the jaws close tightly before the lock does. And if you wanted to remove the locking mechanism - I dare say it could be filed down. Brilliant set of foreceps - with strong purchase on the hook and also with scissors built in. I almost sent this bundle back as I initially could not open the foreceps. So happy I persevered! Along with the zinger, fly box and other tools its a superb gift for a friend or for oneself!

I needed forceps in a hurry.... I wish I hadn't bothered. The plastic coating on the handles was in one piece, effectively 'welding' the handles together. I had to cut the plasticoat to open and use them. The pin on the retractor is useless and the nippers wouldn't cut through 0.15 mm fine line. All in, I wouldn't recommend and definitely wouldn't buy again.

These tools are great quality and tremendous value.The snips and knot tool are my favourite making my leader line connection more straightforward and the zinger makes sure i wont leave anything lying on the bank.Five stars

Wish I’d read the reviews first! Absolute joke - no chance of using the forceps as they are welded together!
